Different behaviour of Prompts in BI Launchpad 4.2

HI Dell,

  1. Before we go in for patching I wanted to check one last thing. As an admin I can get the prompt values in BI Launchpad too. So what is the right that has changed between 4.1 and 4.2 for a BI launchpad end-user? The access level for them is the buit-in schedule access for both servers.

Can we fix this with Custom Access Level?

If we do patching, is there any harm? Also, if we do patching- do we have to repromote therafter?

2. Also If a prompt is displaying the codes earlier, now it seems to be displaying the description for that code, Is that expected behavior...example All - 0 Chicago -1 used to show 0,1 in the LOV ,now it is showing All,Chicago.

Thanks

Sandy

1. I'm not sure what the question is. Are Administrators not supposed to see the prompt values? Or are users not seeing the prompt values? If users aren't seeing values for dynamic prompts. you'll need to run the Business View Manager (BVM) from the Client Tools install and give either Everyone or specific user groups the rights to view and refresh. I usually do this at the "Cascading Dynamic Prompts" folder level and let everyone have the access because users will only be able to see the data if it is used for a prompt in a report and access to reports is restricted in the BI Platform.

2. This is a setting in the prompt definition in the report. Look for "Prompt With Description Only" and "Show Value or Description" in the report. I'm not sure if this is something that was a "fix" because it wasn't working correctly in the first place, or if it's a new "feature" that someone at SAP thought was a good idea.

Hi Dell,

We granted the rights(view and edit) to everyone in the BVM for the LOVs.and Dynamic Cascading prompt,

But now the LOVs are not refreshing in BI Launchpad.

What could be the problem? We have scheduled the List of Values and the instance was successful as well.

Thanks

I'm working from home today, so I don't have access to a system that I can connect to with the BVM. Are there differences in the access rights that are available in the BVM for the folder and the LOVs/prompts?

Also, do the users have View Object access to the Crysta2016ReportApplicationServer? They need that because that's where the LOV is processed.

Hi Dell,

I tried giving users rights to Edit and view at both Dynamic Prompts level and LOV level . It still does not refresh the Launchpad.

Does this mean there is a bug? The admin can see the list wheras the end-user cannot. SAP BO 4.2, sp 4 base install.

Have you checked the rights to the Crystal2016ReportApplicationServer? They're set to "Not Assigned" as a default. I usually just turn on the View Objects global advanced right at the top level of Servers in the CMC to take care of this.

Hi Dell,

The rights are set to granular access of view on the top level and schedule at the folder level in CMS.

The rights on BVM folders are all granted explicitly as view to this group. Yet I see the LOV not being refreshed.

I'll be in our office where I have access to our Lab system tomorrow. At some point during the day I'll play with it and see whether I can figure out the specifics of what you need to do.

The following seems to have worked:

Give explicit rights to the group at the server level on the BVM.

I was giving access to 'Everyone' and that wasn't working.
