Embedding legacy Crystal Report 8.5 .qry files into reports themselves

Is it possible to embed the queries used in .qry files into the .rpt files themselves. Since the separate query files are no longer supported, can I embed the SQL statement themselves into my older 8.5 reports and then convert the files to latest version?

Based on the experience I had when converting reports from 8.5 to XIr2 about 14 years ago, you won't be able to do this. You'll have to recreate the reports from scratch. You'll take the query from the file and create a new report using that query in a Command in the new version of Crystal (see this link for more info on how to use Commands). You can rename the command to match the name of the query as it's displayed in the 8.5 report.

When I was doing this, I was then able to have the old report open in 8.5 and next to it the new report I was creating. I then put any formulas that weren't used in the report design in 8.5 on the old report, cut them, and pasted them into the new report to move the formulas over. You then delete them from both report designs. Create whatever groups and additional sections you need to match the old report, then copy and paste all of the objects from the old report to the new on, working one section at a time. DO NOT include any lines in the copy/paste - they will prevent the paste from working and will have to be re-drawn in the new report.
