Running SAP Business One from Client connecting to a Separated Standalone SQL Server

Hi experts,

We have SAP Business One installed on a server 1 with all required services running on SQL server 2008, we need to have our users not working via Remote Desktop connection, instead installing the client software and have them working on SAP via the connection that will be between their client software and the server stated in databases,

we did thess steps, but unfortunately when we trying ot connect, SBO connect successfully, but the functional performace is so low, to just move from one mode to another (from Financial, to Logisitcs) it takes more 15 seconds,

can any one please refer us why we're facing such an issue, and does this issue have anything to do with the SQL server?

SAP Business One 9.3 PL04
SQL Server 2008

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Unfortunately connecting from different LAN using SAP B1 client will sure have a performance issue. We tried at many customers and the story is same.

It is always recommended to go with RDP but still you can restrict the users by many means like Remote App or you can try 3rd party providers like Citrix.

Alternatively, you can use SAP B1 Browser access.

My personal preference is use RDP with controlled access.

Bala

thanks for your comment, but we don't the users to use Remote Desktop because in some cases it may not be secure, on the other hand some users needs to work with more than one company database at the same time, that's what happing while working with Web Despatcher, and it's not solved till this moment,

Actually I'm wondering about if it's related to the SQL Server version? because not working on the same LAN it's so normal these days, especially a huge number of companies around the world doing operations in more than one country,

additional, you can use Remote Desktop in case you have small number of usres, but in case of having more than 200 users, what we'll do in this case?

Hi,

Like balakumar.viswanathan2 said, the recommendation is RDP or a Citrix type solution. The point of this recommendation is that the B1 client actually loads data into local memory. Sometimes such data is loaded preemptively for example to make drill down functionality work a little faster, or to show certain aggregated data like a BP's balance. Certain user settings regarding the UI are also stored in the database. This can make switching between forms slow. Formatted Searches also run queries in the background and load the data from the server to the client, and they can make a normal LAN setup slow. Imagine what they can do to performance in the scenario you are describing.

RDP can work with a larger number of users, but your server needs to have about 1 GB of available RAM per consecutively connected user. In a case with 200 users you should consider a separate server for the RDP role, or indeed use a Citrix type system, which is specifically meant to handle this kind of scenario.

The sql server, or its version have little or nothing to do with the problem.

Johan
