CR for VS 2010 – equivalent full crystal reports version

I am using Visual Studio 2010 professional edition. I have SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010 installed. For complex reports, I intend to use Full Crystal Reports version and then adding the rpt file in Visual Studio’s solution explorer through Add Existing Item. However, I am not sure, which full crystal reports version should I be using for this purpose? Should it be crystal reports 2008, 2011, 2013, or 2016?

2008 and 2011 are both end of life and/or in maintenance mode, no more patches.

2011, 2013 and 2016 are all the same version so I suggest using 2016, it will have the most update to date Platform support for OS's and 3rd party dependencies and will give you the longest supported version going forward.

@Kaushik - Can I ask you to please stop posting links to copies of official SAP documents that are usually outdated. The one "Download Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010" is one of the originals and for some odd reason it's telling the users to download the RTM release. Completely wrong...

Thank you

Hi ,

Check the below might be helpful for you,

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/317789

Download Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

Visual Studio 2010 doesn’t come with Crystal Report as it was in VS2008. Crystal Report 2011 version for visual studio can be downloaded from the SAP website and it is free to use. There is no license cost for that as long as it is being used for internal applications within .Net (can't be used with third party software’s

And, Yes its good to go with the latest version which is 2016. But as per SAP recommendation, always for business purpose its better to chose the (n-1) version, considering n=latest version of any product. So, 2013 is a better choice, in my opinion

Thanks,

Kaushik

Hi Aziz,

You can use all of them. CR 2013 and CR 2016 are the current supported Designer. If you have them go with it.

For already developed CR 2008 reports gets updated once you save it from Visual Studio IDE.
