SM7.2 Java stack update, sum tool only show xml stack file option

I installed a new SM7.2 system, the ABAP stack has updated to SP03, for solman_setup, in 'system preparation' scenario, step 4.3 Implement Java Patches, the help text is as below:

Activities

1.To find the list of software components to be patched, open SAP Note 1595736, and the open the Release Information Note (RIN) that corresponds to your support package.

2.Open https://support.sap.com/swdc and choose Support Packages and Patches -> Browse Download Catalog -> SAP Technology Components -> SAP Solution Manager -> SAP Solution Manager 7.2 -> Solution Manager Java Stack. Download the relevant patches.

3.If you need to deploy software component SOLMANDIAG (LM-SERVICE), switch on maintenance mode, as described in the support package specific RIN (refer to 1.).

4.After the download of the Java component patches, place the files in a directory prepared to implement them. For more information, see the SUM guide at https://service.sap.com/sltoolset -> Software Logistics Toolset 1.0 -> Documentation -> System Maintenance -> Updating SAP Systems Using Software Update Manager <Version> -> Applying Single Component Updates and Patches Using a Manually Prepared Directory.

I have downloaded all the patches need for the java stack and put into a folder, and I using the latest SUM tool(1.0 SP17 PL8) to update it. But when it hit the 'SELECT ROADMAP' phase, I only have option specify the stack xml file, there is no option 'manual prepared directory', any idea why the option was missing? thanks.

Peter Yu

Hi Beigen,

I had the same Situation! Here the solution:

You have to open a different SUM URL for JAVA only patch

http://HOST:1128/lmsl/sumjava/SID/index.html replace HOST and SID. At this URL you should find the manual prepared directory option

Wolfgang,

Thank you, the new url do give me the option for manual prepared directory. But I am still has issue with this patch, my solman java instance components version is 740.11.x.x, but the guide as me patched to SP12

J2EE ENGINE SERVERCORE 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 20 (or higher) for J2EE ENGINE SERVERCORE 7.40 SP 12

J2EE ENGINE CORE TOOLS -> OS independent: Patch 4 (or higher) for J2EE ENGINE CORE TOOLS SP 12

J2EE ENGINE FRAMEWORK 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 11 (or higher) for J2EE ENGINE FRAMEWORK 7.40 SP 12

ENGINEAPI 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 11 (or higher) for ENGINEAPI 7.40 SP 12

LM NWA BASIC APPS 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 4 (or higher) for LM NWA BASIC APPS 7.40 SP 12

UME ADMINISTRATION 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 4 (or higher) for UME ADMINISTRATION 7.40 SP 12

SECURITY EXTENSIONS 7.40 -> OS independent: Patch 1 (or higher) for SECURITY EXTENSIONS 7.40 SP 12'

Even I have downloaded the new patches and prepared the directory, I cannot use this option to update it from SP11 to SP12. So I still need get a xml file to upgrade my java stack.

What stack level you got after finish install your solman java stack? Mine is 740 SP11

Hey Peter,

yeah had the same problem and pateched the SP11 java components. You can find the version information in at the java startpage http://<solman>:50200 product information and there component information. At the moment im in parenttime and cant tell you if all works, but the system came up all green and running. The configuration steps will follow in november.
