Basic questions about SAP HANA Express Edition

     Hi Expertes,

I recently downloaded the SAP HANA Express Edition, the full server option with apps.

I have some questions

- Just to be sure, this is only a SAP HANA DB Edition right ? Does not include any development environment ?

- When i check the suse network wiht ifconfig i get a IPv6 at the eth0 adapter. I fixed this with a Lot of investigation, but is there a simple way to fix this? or there is a way to work with IPv6 address ?

- When i follow the installation guide Start Using SAP HANA, express edition | SAP

     - I get an error at the moment of changing the password for XSA_DEV and XSA_SHINE ( aunthentication error ).

     - When i try to connect to the Web IDE service hexhost:53075, i try to enter whit XSA_ADMIN but i get a permission denied Error and there is no               way to fix this, if i reloaded the page i keep getting the same error.

- Is there a way to develop apps in the HCP using the local HANA Express installation?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Hi Carlos

Thanks for trying HANA express edition and for your feedback.

1) Full server with app includes : HANA server + development tools (i.e. XSA, Web IDE) that should allow you to develop apps

2) XSA_DEV and XSA_SHINE users are for our future use - these are expected to be enabled in a subseqent release of  HANA express

I will try to get back to you on other questions.

Hello Kanna,

I am receiving the same issue that Carlos is having.  I have changed the password to XSA_ADMIN, however it will not allow me to log back in and gives the error that Authenticating failed even though I know I am entering the correct password

Any help to resolve this issue would be great...

Hi David

I assume you are talking about the following issue, referred to in Carlos' note.

"When i try to connect to the Web IDE service hexhost:53075, i try to enter whit XSA_ADMIN but i get a permission denied"

I suspect that /etc/hosts file is not amended with

<your ip address>     hxehost

Can you check if this what's causing the issue?

Note:

1. clear browser cache before retrying

2. on windows the file is located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

3. you need to open the file for editing from command prompt (admin) - from windows starts menu

Hi, I am getting the same error when I enter XSA_ADMIN with right PW.  The hosts file was already adjusted.  Can you advise which user ID to use to logon to Web IDE?  Thanks much.

Hi, Should I assign any roles?  I am able to connect to SYSTEMDB@HXE system via HANA Studio.  I looked for webide* roles, but there is no roles like that.   Thanks much.

Hello Ted, Carlos and David:

I see three problems reported:

1. You cannot authenticate xsa_dev to the database.

2. You cannot log in to the webide.

3. You did not get an ipv4 address.

I hope the following will help:

1. You cannot authenticate xsa_dev to the database.

Try running the following hdbsql query at the command line:

hdbsql -u system -p <system user's password> -d Systemdb "alter user xsa_dev password <xsa_dev user's temporary password>".

Note: I say temporary password because you are going to be asked to change it on first login. (Our password policy has to be strict like this because we are shipping these users out on all HXE VMs.

Then try logging in as xsa_dev with the password you just created:

hdbsql -u xsa_dev -p <xsa_dev user's temporary password> -d SystemDB "select current_timestamp from dummy"

You should be prompted to change the xsa_dev user's password again. Do so. You will now want to switch to a new xsa_dev password.

2. You cannot log in to the webide.

Try logging in to the webide using xsa_dev instead of xsa_admin.

3. You did not get an IPv4 address.

There are many reasons this can happen. Here are a few. Please let me know what you did, Carlos, to get around this so we can add it to our troubleshooting list for this network configuration issue.

a. Check which type of networking your virtual machine is using. Ordinarily you want to make sure you are using Bridged networking and not NAT or Host only for the interface VM virtual interface. If you are using VMWare you can edit your VM network adapter settings using the Virtual Network Editor tool.

That said, I just spoke with a user who said he had to choose NAT for his network adapter in his company network. Ergo, you should try both options while I sort out why his network requires NAT.

b. You have conflicting virtual network drivers on your host. I, for example, have to disable or uninstall my virtualbox drivers when using VMWare on my laptop or I will not get an ipv4 address.

Some More exotic possibilities:

c. Your client OS certificate might be the wrong version. I had a Windows 8 laptop installed with a Windows 7 certificate that couldn't get an IP address. Updating the certificate got rid of the problem.

d. I had an HP laptop with outdated BIOS where the problem manifested. A BIOS upgrade did the trick.

Carl

Hi Carl,

Thanks, I manage to login to WebIDE wiht the steps you provided.

For the IPv6 problem here is what i do.

1 According to this article , here is how to disable IPv6 ( Step 2 )

https://www.server-world.info/en/note?os=SUSE_Linux_Enterprise_12&p=initial_conf&f=3

Credits to whom it may be concern.

2. Change the VMWare network Device setting to "NAT - Used to share host's ip address"

Now this will change to a IPv4, but not sure to be if its the right choice because my local dhcp is like 192.168.0.XX , but in the VMWARE i got an ip like 192.168.42.XXX.

Hope this helps.

pd. there is still a question with no response.

- Is there a way to develop apps in the HCP using the local HANA Express installation?

Thanks for writing up your networking findings Carlos.

Regarding Express to HCP: can you tell me a little more about how you want to integrate your HANA Express with HCP? Are you looking to develop Multi Target Apps in XSA and then migrate the apps to HCP? Are you looking to migrate a whole XSA space from Express to an HCP container? Something else?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the user who had to use NAT only needed to access his VM from the host which, of course, makes sense given the invisibility of NAT VMs to the outside world.
