Hello All,
I have been trying whole day to create a multisource data foundation, but with no luck.
I have a connection to SAP ECC through Jco, and the connection has been published to the repository.
But when I try to create a multisource data foundation, the screen is stuck at the Select connection screen.
It hangs always and I am not able to go forward with this.
We are in BO 4.1 Sp5
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Isha
Is the second connection also being published to repository? In the screenshot you provided I dont see the second connection appearing?

Hi Isha,
While creating a new Multisource enabled data foundation, IDT looks for Data Federation Service from repository.
Screen might hang if Data Federation service is not responding. This could be because server is down or network is blocking the communication.
There could be several things you can try:
1. Assign a Dedicated Request Port to APS DF and bidirectionally open that port through firewall.
2. In order to check if the port is accessible from your client machine where IDT is, you can use telnet command to check if port is accessible.
Refer following link to use telnet:

Hope this helps.

Hi Mithilesh,
I tried the above steps and the connection screen now comes up in IDT
I did not realise the Data federation admin tool also was not opening up earlier.
Thank you for your help.
I am getting an issue now only in the time for getting the connection screen and the further steps after that.
I waited for 12-15 minutes for the connection screen which comes after we select Multisource data foundation. Another 10 minutes after this as well. ( almost half an hour)
Can anything be done or checked to reduce the time taken for this?

Isha
Hi Sateesh,
The client and server tools were not in the same version earlier.
Even after upgrade of the client tools from BO 4.1 SP4 to BO 4.1 SP6, the client tools are slow.
I am still facing problems even while creating a single source or multi source data foundation layer.
IDT just hangs and doesn't show up anything most of the time.
Even if I am able to create a Universe, then I am not able to edit a single object in the Business Layer or Data foundation layer later, as IDT hangs when I try to access it.
Hi Isha,
If this is happening with single source universe as well then I think you should focus on following things:
1. Dedicatedly assign ports for IFRS, APS DF (For MSU)
And open the port bidirectionally on firewall.
2. Check the network latency between client machine and BO Server.
3. Check if the same issue is there or not for all the client machines or if this is specific to one machine.
4. If u have client tools on server, observe the behavior on that machine.

Mithilesh
Hello All,
Thanks for your help!
I found the issue was in the IDT preferences. I had put it up to use the Server middleware.
I tested it with Local Middleware now and the universe creation process is pretty fast in IDT.
I will close up this issue with just a few more queries
1. Can anyone suggest if using Local Middleware is fine? Or should I use the Server middleware?
2. What changes should be done at the Server side to be able to use Server middleware?
Hi Isha,
Using Local middleware has no harms.
When running queries on secured relational connections in the information design tool, you can choose to run queries on the server using the server middleware driver, or locally using the local middleware drivers.
Setting IDT to use local middleware will use drivers installed on local machine. And setting IDT to Server Middleware will use drivers installed on BO server.
To use server middleware, you will have to configure DB drivers on BO server.

Mithilesh
