Hi,

I am trying to install SAP Solution Manager on a distributed installation.

So, I installed ASCS on windows, and installing the database instanace on Suse, but during the abap stack import I keep getting files don't exist even though the files are there.

What logs should I provide that  to help you guys understand the error.

Hi Jack,

I have found this error in your import log. Please check if this DVD Media is available as shown in this path:

Thanks,

Manish

Hi,

I did verify and the files do exist, this I indentified previously as well. But are those the ONLY errors you are seeing as well? I just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Hi,

I would like you to please have a check on the environment variable SAPSYSTEMNAME must set to <SID>.

So login in first as <SID>ADM and then create mentioned user variable.

So needed check saphostname and global name

A reboot might require.

Also do let us know the available space on that installation-disk-location as this import is the longest process among other process & it takes the space for that.

So also need to get a check on the Export CDs that were downloaded without any pause & not corrupted.

Similar reports in,

Thanks,

Kaushik

Hi Kaushik,

Thanks for your followup I believe ample information is in the logs that I have provided.

All the environment variables are set, also can be found in the logs.

This is the process that I am following,

Step 1

Installed HANA DB using root it is up and running fine,

Step 2

Downloaded all teh files using SAP DOWNLOAD MANAGER so the MD5 checksout and not once but twice I have downloaded.

Step 3

Started installation of solman 7.2 abap (both standard and distributed) all the times got error at Import Abap phase

As for space issue, I believe the logical error should be space issue or some error that is somewhat along that line, but it just says media is not available.

This is not my first time installing Solman (4, 7.1 sps 8 -14 experienced)

Best Regards,

Jackson

Hi Jackson

You'll find multiple threads on SCN on this error, please check those and see if you can resolve the issue that way:

One of those threads:

NWAS702 installation problem | SCN

But in my previous reply, I also linked 1 thread which says that the downloaded Export Files path is too long & that is why it is not able to read the Exports file. Could you please have a check on that matter too?

Just a question out of curiosity, have you personally installed this yourself?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the pointer, but this is on Hana.

yes, but I faced other issues & just for information only I was just trying to help, that all. Here we are discussing your issue only & that is why we are trying to go to the root for you although we are personally not there available to check on the options. If we could have been there then, I guess We would have been able to go to the error by now.

I do not whether, you can get in there or not , but My SOLMAN 7.1 demonstration is available at

https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=448475708

The SOLMAN 7.2 will come soon.

Anyways Thanks for update,

As you know I do not take remote of external users without any cost involved. This is in the SCN where we go at max by discussing & giving solution for that. And I also do believe that you have opened for this same issue in the below threads,

If same matter, then also please do close/delete(better) those threads.

Thanks,

Kaushik

Hi,

I did not know that you charge a cost for take remote connection, anyways.

The other two threads have been opened even though for similar issue, I am trying to tackle them from another angle, like port opening if it is a distributed installation and the actual process of distributed installation for HANA setup, that is Suse and Windows, so don't bother about those for now.

Now, to the issue at hand, I just ran the pre-requisties check again, and all have passed with flying colors. Yet, have the above error, what else does an expert need other than the logs to find the root cause?

Hi Jackson

It doesn't matter that the installation is on SAP HANA. You're bumping into what is a basic error message thrown by the installer which has no relation to SAP HANA whatsoever.

The error message is also pretty clear so you should look into similar threads and by reading and checking those, you should be able to resolve the issue or at least discover the root cause I would think and push the needle that way.

Got that Tom, have gone thru a few threads since u posted. But can't relate them to my issue and the funny thing is the solutions are not applicable to my platform. Hence I pointed out that this is on Hana and also I realized I failed to mention it in my Title for the thread.

Hi Jackson

Sorry to say but threads which are the same or which are too similar are reported to the moderators and if they are duplicates, they will be closed down.

The root cause is stated in the logs, the installer cannot find or access that directory . I don't really believe it makes sense to search the logs for other errors at this point. Your installation fails because of the fact that he cannot find the media, that is clear.

So you can look for the root cause of the root cause now, the question is, why? Not enough rights? A different server and the location is not reachable (firewall issue or connectivity issue or the path is not understandable this way)? The files are no good or the folders are empty? Did you unpack the media or is it available in a packed state (just giving another example of something that could go wrong)? ...

The more information (detailed) you can provide, the better so I would suggest you start by giving as much details as you can. What did you check and try in the meantime?

Best regards

Tom

Well I think then it's time for me to dwell you guys in to the screenshots.

Very unlilely permission issue, because my kernel, my hdb client, hana server (which managed to sucessfully install btw) are all on root's desktop.

Some screenshots

I hope that clarifies most of your questions.

Hi Jack,

I would agree here with . That is what I was also trying to say Jack through the above comments above which I think you would have understood till now. In addition, I would also suggest you to go through the documents made keeping in mind about SOLMAN 7.2 by . This would really be helpful for you in future use.

Thanks,

Kaushik

The demonstration that you have given, it merely tells us that you have chosen the path for installation. Like you mention for Permissions, for a single folder I do not think that would be a problem here as you have downloaded & executed in this same system right? & the others like database client & server setup was taken clearly, if that permission matter then, they also would not have been taken for execution. My question here is why did not you keep in the installation directory & execute the sap-install here?

"My question here is why did not you keep in the installation directory & execute the sap-install here?"

What is teh "installation directory" that you are referring to?

Hi Jackson

Did you at least try (as root) chmod -R 777 on the 51050949 folder for example by now?

Can you give us a screenshot of the EXP1 folder content?

Hi Jack

Why don't I see this path in your screenshot where you show the path?

/root/Desktop/Export1/51050949/DATA_UNITS/EXP1

This is not visible there in your screenshot? It was not yet uploaded or?

Best regards

Relax . We here both know that he is getting issue just because he is not properly looking in depth of the issue or maybe he has pointed some errors but he is just not sure whether they are his actual issues or which issue to address 1st & that will resolve all other issues. We will give him his required time.

Thanks,

Kaushik

So you're saying he is testing us

Unfortunately, clairvoyance isn't part of my skill set just yet, still working on it otherwise I could tell him without any further information why it fails

kaus19d

Its because , I have gone through all his contents because since morning till now @ evening WE are answering his reply & by then if he wanted exact solution he would have given proper info. He is performing this on testing mode installation, that means, he also is not maintaining any pre-measures for Failures. Like what would be next step if failed in those scenarios. His almost all cases are regarding this kind of test of SOLMAN & almost all of it looks the same issue in a way.

Sorry, My friends, if I hurt, but to me always A Fact is A Real Fact.

Thanks,

Kaushik

no worries, I'm relaxed, I'm just trying to help out but as always I also prefer community members to put in sufficient efforts themselves. I dislike it when community members just ask anything and throw spec demands on SCN etc. It has to come from both sides .

Hi,

Update: I have tried installing it again and once again same error,

some intresting topics that I found.

https://scn.sap.com/thread/3540346

java version

it only says exp4 alone doesn't exist just like the first link

Can you run below two commands and share the screen shot.

ls -l /root/Desktop/exp2/51050949/DATA_UNITS

ls -l /root/Desktop/exp2/51050949/DATA_UNITS/EXP4

Here is the screenshot

Now you are talking in real regarding the installation. Now for this I can suggest you try after renaming the DATA_UNITS folder as DATA for all the export locations. I am recommending this as because there would not be any symbolic expression( _ ) within the software package path & the sapinst would be able to easily locate the required package because in some cases when it starts to look after the exact file, it would not be able to locate the proper file due to the path name Hirerchacy/confusion. I would also suggest that on this next try you also browse/select to the file LABAL.ASC when giving the path to the package components.

Thanks,

Kaushik

Did someone mention it or did you see that you can change the destination in a properties file in your installation directory? So you don't have to restart the installation to adjust the file location

The path could be an issue if that is also the case for the other paths, would be strange if those work fine and also have _ in them

This is the error that I am getting after removing the underscore ( _ )

I guess I have to do this?

https://scn.sap.com/thread/3310204

Is this likely a bug?

What if you select folder exp1 and try again?

Then it will continue as per normal. But then ofcourse end up the original error, back to square one

I suspect the issue is with long path name. Copy 51050949 with sub contents on / (root drive), making the path like /51050949/DATA_UNITS..

Check it.

I guess you have to enter EXP3 (4), this is the directory where where ABAP Export 1 (2) resides.

Following your pic only, in the path would be a sapinst.log, last installation, better just in the behind screen only the errors & reason are reflecting. search 1 by 1 errors in google 7 can get around

can take care of the control.xml too

Needed for you to 1st go through the installation guides.

Also some of the other solution also mentioned by our friends here, as,

Solution Manager 7.2 Information

Solution Manager 7.2 - Installation and Configuration - II - Configurations

Solution Manager 7.2 - Installation and Configuration - I - Installations

https://apps.support.sap.com/sap/support/knowledge/preview/en/2351539

Better you can come up with the error no. 1 by 1 if not found any solution for that.

Thanks,

Kaushik
