URLs not opening in Solman system

Former Member

Hi Friends ,

We have an issue with Solman 7.2 system (on HANA). None of the URLs open (like workcenter) it just hangs when we try to open any URL .

It was working fine but we killed some sessions in SM50 , after that this issue started.

There is no problem in GUI transactions. There are no dumps and no errors in SM21/DB02/ST04/SICK.

Can you please advise what can be the possible issue , and starting point of where to investigate?

Regards,

Shaswat

Hi All ,

I do know that re-starting the SAP system solves (Most) issues, but asking a customer to restart production systems is not a straightforward thing. We need a root cause, and that's what I am looking for - suggestions on why this thing happens.

If there is memory issues, it should show up in ST02 or memory related ABAP dump. I don't see that.

There are a lot of free work processes, yes there are some jobs which seem to be stuck. But I want to know the exact linkage, why this would cause all URLs to hang?

More specifically is this issue related to HANA or UI5 (since the new user interface in Solman 7.2 is all on UI5) ? Has anyone faced this before.

Also I would like your thoughts on my earlier question - can we keep the JAVA system of Solman down , and what functionality will be effected ?

Thanks for your time to answer this !

Regards,

Shaswat

Hi ,

Answering your queries 1 by 1, so please be patient & bear with me while I put the answers to your questions, if moreclarity requires then obviously I would love to provide the required assistance.

So, Back to

Questions & Solutions:-

  1. "I do see lot of sessions with user SAPJSF in SM50." So that is you have noted. Possibly in your system like other customer's installation default user SAPJSF is a background user for Java support activities, can verify that using SU01. So it is possible that the some jobs are running through that SAPJSF, that is why you see in SM50. Now Question is what jobs? Now Running jobs can be checked through SM37.
  2. Now point to be noted is that the job running using SAPJSF, for that purpose, the RFC also set in SM59, where the job is taking login to execute in the background. If not believe me, then while the job is running, you can use SM04 to see who are the users logged in, can also see the terminal( & IP address also from which system its extracting details or sending details)
  3. So now that you have noted all these, Oh, I almost forgot, Say in case in this way also you are not able to find out the login source, you can check in SM59 & also enable Security Audit Log, task can be achieved via SM19/SM20. Also can set SQL trace & RFC Trace for the activity in background, for say only one day, task can be achieved via ST05.
  4. So this is how you will start going in-depth of the matter, Now that you will be able to locate the Program & why the activity taking long time & generally how much time it is supposed to take, you may Google or Let us know.
  5. More specifically is this issue related to HANA or UI5 (since the new user interface in Solman 7.2 is all on UI5? Coming to this question, I would like to inform that both are interdependent & so partially saying both are responsible in this kind of scenario. But, as per your question, you want to know whether its a drawback or any bug in SOLMAN 7.2 with HANA or UI5, I guess, that is what going on on your mind specially after seeing all the issues coming back to you only like back to Square 1? So, let me tell you regarding this matter, that SAp has launched SOLMAN 7.2. So its the new product. So, I hope that any company whether its SAP or any other company, it is obvious that they will 1st test it & then only release for production. So, its fully tested to work properly, In case feel issue, that is where the technical people like you & us & other people at SAPLabs are there to troubleshoot. Also, In addition, I have heard that before launching a new product SAP chooses some of their customers & then provide the product free of cost to see if any errors are getting reported before they release the Product in Market. Trust me, it work very fine, I have personally launched SOLMAN 7.2 with HANA in one of my clients place, it works just fine with some additional features. Also if you keep yourself updated, then there is a news that SOLMAN 7.1 mainstream support ends on Last of 2017.
  6. Has anyone faced this before? What do you think, that you are facing this issue because of SOLMAN 7.2 or HANA or UI5?? Nothing like that. Or do you think that the same scenario does not come to people who are till now using SOLMAN 7.1 or 7.0 also, I have in my record.
  7. Now that the issue is occurring, we need to go analyze the cause & trouble-shoot the matter. Thats it only.
  8. One thing Here you need to understand why the Java Process hanging along with the ABAP processes. The thing is the HEAP MEMORY, you allocated for running all SAP Programs & Transactions, Its like you can consider as a meter-scale. Say Whatever memory you have allocated lets says that here I will refer as 100 percent Heap-memory. So if the ABAP is already consuming 80% & now the Java needs at least 50%, then it would look like they would start quarreling among themselves for a little bit more space in the heap memory. Same thing as vice-versa, because the Total heap memory, you have allocated, is kind-of fixed for total ABAP+JAVA, not separately. Now if the ABAP job is not completed, then its obvious that it will not release that space, so that the next job, whether its JAVA process or ABAP Process to execute.
  9. Now To see more whats happening in Java or any error reports, I am sure that you are very much familiar with the Term called System/Technical Monitoring & there we can get something called Alert Report. Generally, We will take weekly or Monthly depending upon your choice.
  10. So, Generally, you can try keeping memory free as much as possible every time, or I think, it would be better that you search for the term in SAP called SAPS, like to process a dialogue work process how much SAPS required?
  11. In some of my clients cases, upon calculating all those SAPS & everything, in normal servers like HP/IBM, I would suggest to increase RAM or have additional Dialogue Work process installed.
  12. can we keep the JAVA system of Solman down , and what functionality will be effected ? Answering this, well, if you keep the Java System down, then, I would rather say, you would miss more than half of the features of SOLMAN 7.2. For example, No MOPZ running, No Technical Monitoring Alerts Report or defficiated mis-formatted report, there are a lot many - , CHARM process will get affected, No Interactive-Reporting. I can go on, there a lot many, you can better search for SOLMAN configuration & use process & features.
  13. why this would cause all URLs to hang? To answer this matter, Let me put it like this, Lets  say SAPJSF is running a program to get the overview of your memory, if there is any corrupted table or cluttered rows or indexes are there. Now at the same time the JAVA Process was writing in that Table means updating the table, Hence resulting into both of them into their common Zone quarreling with each other & each other giving intimation that you finish 1st. Hence, Performance issue.

14. So now here we also need to check out what and all Java Process taking long time, all types of Alerts overview & in-depth, if there there are any alerts created for that.

Hope I am able to put a Picture in front of you about what I wanted to tell you. Let me know after analyzing all these. If facing/feeling too critical or have less time to figure out & resolve matter, Then I would generally tell people to open a ticket with SAP. You can do so by dropping a mail to support.india@sap.com or else can check-out E-mail Addresses | SAP Support Portal

Hi

I would suggest in this case the best & fastest scenario would be to restart the system. After the SAP start again 1 by 1 all the programs will be started. Here in your case the the jobs are running which you are checking in sm37. The dialogue Work Process are occupied as can be seen in SM50, so its running out-of-memory issue for temporary time-being. If these jobs all get completed, the matter would easily get resolved.

Thanks,

Kaushik

Hi Sashwat,

If your URLs were working earlier properly then can you please try restarting your Solution Manager (ABAP+JAVA) application & database.

Thanks,

Manish

Hi Shaswat,

Check your ICM configuration in SMICM? This should solve your issue.

Hi Rajat,

SMICM seems to be fine, all services are active.

Manish,

The issue is not with JAVA stack, any URL (webynpro,BSP) does not load.

I was able to resolve the issue temporarily, I cancelled all running batch jobs and set everything from "released" to "scheduled". The URL was visible again.

However, the issue appeared again today.

Also, I do see lot of sessions with user SAPJSF in SM50 , there seems to be lot of communication sessions between ABAP Solman system and its corresponding JAVA Solman system . Can this be the cause of the issue ?

Can we keep the JAVA system down , will it effect the working of Solman ?

Earlier JAVA was used for Maintenance Optimizer but now that functionality has been removed so we should be able to keep it shut down.
