Material Master Number Range Validation

Hi,

I'm trying to setup the number range assignment for Material Master. As understood right now number range is controlled by the Material Type.

Is it possible to include Material Group as a determination field?

Is exit enhancement required to be done? If so kindly provide the exit that I would be able to use upon creation of Material MM01?

How many Material Groups you are having in your business?

If your business have more than 1000 material groups- you will go for 1000 number range groups for material numbering?

Widely discussed for material numbering only material type play great role and which only decide material coding - with development you may achieve your requirement temporarily but for permanent basis on long run ,how this wanted concept help or benefit you and your business !

Do you already have a plan B for the time when a user tries to change a material group in a existing material? Or will this be a forbidden activity and the user would need to create a new material then?

According to me, material master number range can be only controlled by material type and this standard design cannot be changed by any user/customer-exits. Please check the link below for list of user-exits available in standard for enhancing the material master number range.

We assign number range by transaction code MMNR, here in standard we only can maintain number range as per our material type!!

The thread speaks about grouping Material Types.

What i'm looking for is apart from using Material Type to determine the Number Range, i want to use Material Group field in Material Master to determine the Number Range too.

Any idea on how to do that?
