When you say 'Client Workstation', do you mean that you are running the report in Crystal designer ?

Also, does the client workstation has same connection, (ODBC or Native) created and pointing to same Database as the server ?

You need to verify that first, before trying to run the report locally.

More information might help if the above connectivity is already there on client workstation and if it still throwing error. like version of crystal designer etc..

I mean client workstation is one pc in the network, the report is store in a server folder, client pc run the report through the network, the network folder is already access by everyone, should I need to setup a odbc? need to open dataport for client to access SQL? Thx

when I run the report in client, it take a long loading time then error code 17 pop up, why it need to load for a long time, it is connecting to somewhere not the server?

If you have any of the Verify Database options enabled then it will try to connect.

Thanks, so if I run the report in the client pc, the sql database is on the server, should I open the network port 1433/1434?

I suggest contacting Microsoft and ask them how to resolve that error.

CR assumes the connection to the Server is working.

Hi ,

You do understand that any service if runs on a port no. then you will be able to telnet from other systems. If the service does not run, then pinging, telnet-ing fails simply. OS matters are generally handed to the OS support team in every company. You can ask your OS team for help in this matter, even if it includes raising a Microsoft call like mentioned.

Thanks,

Database error code 17 is MS's, look on their site for what the error means, CR is simply passing it through to you.
