for me the question is still unclear.
What an end user sees in the UI is one thing and what this means for the used BW data model is another thing. You have to ask the end user how the 'free dimension' behaves, i.e. whether this is just information about the Company Code, Cost Center, GL Account/Cost Element tuple (such a thing is usually called an attribute in a data model and corresponds to data fields in a DSO, this is 'comment like) or whether this is just another independent dimension (characteristic). In the latter case changing such a dimension value leads to new 'records' (i.e. new tuples) and is not supported in BW-IP in input-ready queries: changing such a value technically would correspond to what a repost planning function does (take the key figure values from the old tuple, create a new tuple, copy the key figure values to the new tuple and zero out the key figure values in the old tuple).
