Reference characteristic usage

Hi Experts,

I want to use a reference characteristic, say Material_number, to populate a material number in it from the table in the material master and for the same characteristic again the material number should get populated at the time of sales order entry.

1. If I add MARA-MATNR in the additional data, the material number gets populated only in the material master.

2. When I add both MARA-MATNR and VBAP-MATNR in the additional data tab, VBAP-matnr gets the priority and the material number does not show in the material master and only in sales order.

I want the material number to be shown in both MM03 and VA03 using the same characteristic. Is it possible?

Thanks,

Neha

    Neha Gupta,

Can you please add what and how you are using this value further , may be a better option could be suggested.

Immediately , my suggestion is use two characteristic instead of one.

    1) CH_Material ( MARA-MATNR)

    2) CH_Sales_Material (VBAP-MATNR)

    Thanks

    • Neha,

It worked out fine in both places. I can see MATNR in material master (MM03) as well as in sales order too. VA01.

I guess in your case its a data issue, create a new set of reference characteristic and test it.

While adding table and filed use the copy button, it will make sure to link the characteristic with both the table, after that you will get message settings will be coped from table.

      Check it work for you.

      Thanks

      Ritesh

You had a same issue two years back. How did you resolve it? I would appreciate if you could share.
