Viewing Crystal Report in VB.NET Application

I am trying to get a report displayed to the screen using crystal reports server 2013. I have a application (version 7.0) and need to pass parameters to a .rpt file to have the report displayed on the webpage. Below is the code I have started with. It would helpfil to have some direction on where to proceed from here.

Dim rasNewSession As New CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.SessionMgr

Dim session As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.EnterpriseSession

session = rasNewSession.Logon("Administrator", "password", "Hostname:6400", "secEnterprise")

Dim session_str As String

session_str = session.SerializedSession

Dim crReportDocument As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument

My current environment includes the following

  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Visual Studio 2015
  • Crystal Reports Server 2013 with Client Tools 2013
  • Crystal Reports (Designer) 2013 SP8
  • SQL Anywhere 12 Deployment
  • SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (32-bit)
  • SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (64-bit)
  • SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Visual Studio

My crystal report installation are both trial versions at the moment, so I also want to make sure they do not have a limited feature set. Once we can verify we can open reports with our web application, the products will be purchased by my company.

Please let me know if there is any other information you need to better assist.

    Hi Alex,

    What you need is Enterprise SDK to fetch the report object from repository and then cast it to a RAS report object (ReportClientDocument).

    ReportDocument is used to load standalone report.

    See the sample code here

    Other samples are here.

    • Hi Alex,

      Ah, CR for VS no longer has connectivityy to BOE Enterprise systems, you will find there are not version 13 assemblies with those names.

      You need to contact your account manager and get access to SMP so you can download the BOE/CRS .NET SDK package.

      Or if you have it then remove the version 13 assemblies and use ONLY version 14.

      PS - Don't install the 64 bit MSI unless it's from the VS installer on the DEV PC.
