SAP HANA Cloud Connector Installation Host

Former Member

Hello Experts,

We need your guidance on HANA Cloud Connector installation in our project. We are planning to reuse one of the SAP Gateway box as HCC host. But as per guide, http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-42533 , it is mentioned that "should have the single purpose to serve as a host for the SHCC Server to run on" @Page 4 last line. Does it mean we need to setup a standalone windows system just to host HCC?

regards, Vikrant

Hi Vikrant,

security is one consideration and performance & data load is another one. However, from a technical standpoint, the SCC can be installed anywhere in the LAN where it has network access to the required backend systems. So if it's ok for you from a security perspective and there is only low traffic to be expected (so that the SCC won't take resources away from other critical systems) you could install the SCC on any existing host, even on the SAP application server (as the most extreme example).

Hi Vikrant,

The recommendation is to always have a machine which just runs SCC (SAP HANA Cloud Connector). Here is the Security Whitepaper which explains few reasons. Since SCC is the component which connects your on-premise systems with the Cloud, it needs to be more secure - lock down of physical access of the machine which hosts SCC. You do not want SCC to be impacted by events which occur in the system shared for other purposes too.

Cheers,

Murali.
