MI31 - User exit

Dear all,

Does anyone know if there is a user exit in MI31?

It seems that the standard selection cannot be changed.

We have batch management activated and the standard selection does not return materials without a batch.

We've gone through different migrations in the past few years and as a result, most of these materials which had movements in our legacy systems, do not have movements (nor batches) yet in our current system. But they will need to be counted during our annual stock take.

The batches could still be created "manually", but I'd like to first double check if anyone is aware of such option or has gone through a similar scenario.

Thanks,

Annabelle R.

What you described sounds rather like a bug or a data inconsistency in your system.

I have never seen that you can only get batch managed materials with MI31, I get both.

A data inconsistency would be if the material master has the flag for batch management and you have stocks without batches for that material.

Instead of looking for a user exit you should probably open a call at SAP Support.

Thanks, Jurgen - for yet another helpful answer.

I just want to clarify. These materials have the "batch management" indicator checked, but they have no stock on hand, and no movements (in the current system). In other terms, they have no batch in table MCHA.

There seems to be 2 "differing viewpoints" in our company:

  • Business side: 100% materials created and not flagged for deletion in the Warehouse must be counted. Independently of if they have stock on hand, no stock on hand, movements, batches, etc. Or the stock take may not be fully compliant.

  • System side: Materials with no batches "created" have not been received yet. So they "shouldn't be counted".

As I've pointed out in my previous message: one (big) issue is that due to these multiple system migrations, a lot of materials are now not being included in MI31, because at the time of the migration, they had no stock in our legacy system.

That MI31 selection also looks inconsistent to me. But I guess my experience with such scenario is still limited. What do you think?

In that case I would not talk about a bug.

To count batch managed materials you have to count batches, without a batch you can't count any batch. In other words, you cannot confirm that batch number #123 is zero if the batch #123 is not in your system.

But this is not much different to materials without batch management. If the material master has not yet a MARD segment for a storage location ABCD then you will not get this material into a physical inventory document for location ABCD.

Thanks, Juergen. All clear.

I guess that we will have to determine exactly which materials "should still be counted", and maybe consider a solution to create batches in mass for them.

But I understand that "new" materials (not from our legacy systems) without a batch nor movements in our current system, shall be excluded from the standard selection and count.
