Dear Experts,
I'm doing my first implementation, and I would require to propose number ranges for inventory management to my client. Thus, requesting you to advice me the SAP's best practice on the below query.
Thanks you so much for your advice.

As per my knowledge you should go with the first option, because no one knows how many document they will post in a year, if you go with second option & the number of document are smaller than your number range will become obsolete and consultant have to again maintain the number range for next year!
Please go with the first option also you can check with the option provided by other SAP gurus.
Thanks & regards,

Hi,
The decision should be made based on the expected number of inventory documents that are expected to be posted every year & year on year.
However, the SAP best practice suggests to use Year-wise number ranges, as the number range can be re-used every year.
Pros :
-> Number range can be re-used & hence no risk of numbers getting exhausted over a period of time.
-> As the Doc Year is a Key field, using it to its advantage is a best practice.
Cons :
-> Number range needs to be extended every year.(if not done earlier)
-> Only a document number (that too, if used in connecting systems) will not uniquely identify a inventory document, but will make sense only queried with a year along with it.
