Move translation texts into different language

Hi,

We have a system with two logon languages currently - English and German. I would like to let the users log into the system using third language, which is not maintained/translated in our customer development.

Is it possible to move all the translation texts (like programs, dynpros, data elements, transactions etc) from English into let's say Polish language at once?

You first install Polish and then you fill up the missing Polish translation from English or German

I can see that this is done from transaction SMLT

Please notice that I would like to move the translation texts from one language into another in a customer development area, not standard translation objects provided by SAP.

Why oh why would you want to make your life so hard.

Well, there is a plethora of different text tables. I don't know if there is such a tool, but one never knows.

I wrote such a tool a long long time ago. It wasn't difficult. Problems arise when you use standard object types for parameters, for example. Since the standard text in the other language doesn't exist, you end up with the field name of the parameter instead of the text.

Why make life so hard? What do you mean? We have Z* development translated into EN and DE, and now users log into the system from new country and they cannot work as there are empty and technical names. I am looking for possibility to move the texts from EN into PL language as the users from Poland understand english as well.

Wouldn't it be helpful to set English as the secondary language (profile Parameter zcsa/second_language)? If texts are not availabel in PL, the System should automatically snatch the EN texts then, at least a part of them.

Is it possible in SMLT to narrow down the objects for translation to all objects from a Z* package?

As a side note - we try to use standard types as much as possible (e.g. Company Code or Material Number, it's the same thing either on a standard screen or in a custom report), so that we have fewer items to translate to begin with. Also in selection screen texts we use the dictionary checkbox. It's amazing how many times we had unnecessary typed in texts there before we implemented the development standards.

We also use custom messages instead of generic '&& & &' and those are easy to identify and translate. The forms you'll likely must translate. With a bit of discipline and organization no special tools would be needed.
