Long Running Background Jobs

Hi,

Is there anyway to restrict long running background jobs??..ie can we set a rule say,no background jobs should run more than 'x' days?

Regards,

Sam

    Hi Sam,

I don't know of a way of restricting the runtime of a background job via a system parameter, for example.

However, what we have done in the past is utilise CCMS or other third-party monitoring to alert when the runtime has past a pre-defined threshold. When the threshold was exceeded, the monitor was set-up to email a support mailbox. The support personnel monitoring the mailbox would then act on the alert (e.g. by cancelling the process manually).

    Regards,

    Gary

    Hi,

in SM37 you have the option to define:

    "No Start After <date>"

When you click on the Start definition.

You can restrict the start if the Job by this.

    regards

    Dear Sam,

there is no restriction for background jobs (or better put non-dialog processes). Only the runtime of dialog work processes can be set by rdisp/max_wprun_time.

If you have jobs that run for days, you should investigate the reason for such a long runtime.

    Regards,

    Tim
