Dear All,
I have a requirement to create new coding mask in the existing system. Below are the details of existing coding mask, new coding & existing projects in system.
NOTE: I am not changing the special character - OPSK only adding new coding mask.
Existing coding mask :
AZS01-XXX-XX-XX
New coding mask :
AZS39-XXX-XX-XX
AZS40-XXX-XX-XX
AZS41-XXX-XX-XX
AZS42-XXX-XX-XX
Projects are created using AZS01-XXX-XX-XX, so is this feasible to create new project coding mask & move to PRD as listed above.
Thanks & Regards,
Kumar
Hi Kumar,
Read the thread https://scn.sap.com/thread/1576924...for additional understanding.

yes you can use the new mask as stated by Maria.. Just check that you don't have any validations built for the old coding mask..

Hi Kumar,
if lets say you have a validation that for project profile X or Project type Y the coding mask should follow the old naming convention then you can face issues..
other than that i don't think your current change will have any adverse impact on projects created with old coding mask..

Hi Kumar,
Yes, you can.
Its just a naming difference, there is no harm, but actually, you should test by creating project scenario and then only you need to move to PRD.

Hi Maria,
Thanks for the inputs, sure will do the testing & then move. Going forward we will be using both existing coding mask AZS01-XX & also newly created one. I don't think if I create new coding mask it will effect the existing projects in prd system.
Please let me know if I can ignore the message.

The possible conflict with adding a new coding mask to a system is that you may have a conflict with a project that was already created in the system without the mask. If the existing project has a name that doesn't match the new coding mask it will become unusable. That is why you get the transport warning.
So check the receiving system for projects that would be affected by the new coding mask.
Hi Ken,
Thanks for the inputs, this is very important piece of information.
I checked in receiving system all projects are created using mask & also in OPSK I have check box for edit, so I am under assumption when system went live users were forced to use coding mask.
I hope new coding mask will not conflict or create inconsisties for existing project, please correct me if I am wrong.
Regards,
Kumar
