Planning Functions Timing Out

Hello,

We have a planning function that is based on a Fox Formula.

The formula takes a profile code from a planning report and distributes values into specific Posting Periods, refreshes the report and then the end user will save the data.

For smaller datasets, as expected this works very well and is incredibly quick.

For larger datasets (5-10k), this planning function executes, runs for about 4 minutes and then produces a timeout.

Same in BW and on portal it times out (BW 7.0, Planning Function built in Planning Modeler (old school).

Firstly, is there any way that we can force the planning function to use a background user rather than dialog so as to avoid the timeout, or increase the parameter settings for planning functions.

Secondly, what other options do we have for processing larger datasets to avoid a timeout. We have investigated using planning sequences but they also time out. We have built a process chain that contains a planning sequence that processes the packages efficiently and we can trigger this from the Web Application Designer planning Report but we have no way to know when it completes (as the egg timer disappears on report after about 5 seconds though chain runs for a further five minutes) and we also have no way to filter the data or pass variable to the chain when it begins its processing, it runs for the entire planning filter dataset, rather than just the data on the report output, is there any way around this?

I would welcome any suggestions.

Kind Regards,

John
