Alternate Item group in BOM

Dear friends,

I have a question on Alternate item group in BOM

Here is the business requirement:

Material A is a component of FG,

And material B can be an alternative item for A when A is in a shortage.

let's say the stock of A is 10, the stock of B is also 10.

And the requirement for A is 12,

Can system automatically suggest in production order processing that 10 pieces of A and 2 pieces of B should be used in the prod order?

PS: if A has enough stock, no reservation for B should be proposed by system.

Hi Sridhar,

we have 2 options in alt item grp (A and B are alt item )
.

1-we can have strategy "Manual maintenance /by usage probability" where

probability is defined in bom for each component in the alt item grp.

lets say com A=60%

comp B=40%

in this case if requirement is of 10 quantity for component then A=6 and B=4 will be used for consumption.

2-we can have 100%check where "priority" is used to select component for consumption in condition stock is available.

lets say comp A has

priority=1 (stock avl=10)

comp B has priority=2 (stock avl=20)

then  if during confirmation component quantity required is 12 then component B will be used for consumption.

if during confirmation component quantity required is 8 then component A will be used as it has 1 priority.

Hi Sridhar,

In SAP PP, there is a scenario called Substitute BOM item. In SCN we already have many threads on this. Please search with keyword "Substitute BOM Item".
