Help to restore a ASE15.0 database in ASE15.7?

I am not a DBA. I am not going to do this upgrade, but need to document to evaluate the effort.

Just one database (size - 33000M)

Looks like DUMPed and LOADed. and the file that is dumped will be copied to a shared drive and accessed by the new server for restore.

What are the steps involved? is there a document for this effort.

SYBASE ASE manual is too much for this simple effort.

Thanks and appreciate help.

Mark, This is exactly what I needed. I told I am not a DBA and not going to do the effort. There are DBA's who would know better.

looking at this step with limited knowledge in Administration I have 2 questions.

What about Database user / password as it is stored in system database?

Does the DBCC utility needs to be run before DUMP?

I am sure the DBA's will answer it, as those issues does not come under simple outline steps.

Thanks

You're venturing away from 'simple'; you need to get a DBA involved.

If the objective is to 'evaluate the effort' then your boss (or your client) needs to get a DBA involved to properly determine the effort required to perform the operation.

(Preference would be to get the input of the DBA who's actually going to perform the operation, otherwise you run the (very real) risk of performing an invalid/flawed analysis of the effort involved.)

Seriously ?

Get hold of a DBA and ask him/her to help you

There are so many things involved even in a simple database refresh (i.e. same ASE version)

And this one is for upgrade from one ASE version to next version ! Without a DBA inputs ?

What are you trying to estimate ? Time, storage space, DBA effort, complexity of the task ?

This is uncalled for,  asking moderator to delete.

My apologies if Shan feels this way. There was/is/will be no intention of hurting anyone.

I was trying to emphsize the effort and complexity involved even for a dump and load operation which as a DBA I will hesitate to call "simple".

See responses from Mark Parsons who has raised question after question you need to have a ready answers for.

If you are not a DBA then your difficulty level will be even more !!

In spite of this if the moderator feels that my comment was uncalled for and should be deleted then I have no issues with that.
