System copy of my MaxDB Content server from PRD to QAS

I have started to upgrade our AIX based Content Server and MaxDB to the latest versions. Before we do that we want to do a system copy of the PRD MaxDB to the QAS MaxDB. My first attempt failed. I am using the DBMGUI to back up our PRD DB. I am then trying to restore with initialization the PRD MAxDB to QAS. Our version of MaxDB is 7.6.06. I am using SAP Note 129352 - Homogeneous system copy with SAP MaxDB as my reference. From what I understand it is simple a backup and then restore with initialization.

My one concern is that PRD is 300 plus GB and QAS 35GB. When I try to do the restore over QAS it gives me an out of space error. I did add additonal file system space to take into account the new DB size. Also, our PRD has 11GB volumes and our QAS has 2.5 GB volumes. Is the volume size mismatch an issue? It seems I can copy a larger database to an initially smaller target according to the notes I read. Is there a step that I am missing?

    Hi Bruce,

Yes, you should add enough data volume in the QAS. The volum size mismatch is not a problem.
So the question for you is, what is the final size (total data volumes) for the QAS?

Why not add QAS to 300 plus GB like PRD?

    Best regards,
