Assignment of Role to release code: User

Former Member

Hi Teams,

We have configured a release strategy but we have problem with assignment of role to release code with user.

Indeed, not all users are existing in DEV system. And therefore we cannot create entries with username of our quality system.

How can we work with US type of assignment of role to release code?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Thomas Weyrich

Hi,

That is the downside when using US as agent assignemnt.

It is better to use position or if your approval needs cannot be conformed with the SAP standard workflow that is provided you can create your own custom flow with its own approval logic.

What you first have to do is inquire how many times an approval can be changed because this will influence the chosen direction.

For a quick fix you can allways manually alter the customizing entries, or temporary open the client for changes. This depends on the urgency of your situation.

Hi Rob,

An it's actually the same problem with OOCU transaction for assigning agent to tasks.

I can understand that standard workflow is foreseen to use the position but I'm just surprise that they allow to use US since they don't recommend to create users in each transport.

May be I miss some best practices?

Anyway, thanks for your answer.

Hi Thomas,

These standard solutions with sap workflow are very old, almost ancient. I don't think they thoroughly thought it through when building it and presenting it as an SAP standard solution.

I think your best way forward is to take a step back, gather all of the business requirements for a perfect scenario and then build that using custom workflows and custom user decisions with information that they need, plus some deadline monitoring in the case an approver waits too long, etc. etc.
