UJBR don't restore a backup

Hi BPC Friends

I have done a backup of an environment and now I want to restore it in Quality using UJBR.

I have deleted the environment from Quality and the back up file is in the SAP Directory and can be seen by transaction AL11.

I am running the process in background, the job finished successfully after 2 seconds but nothing has been restored!!!

Thanks

Michele

just one question:

I did the restore using the user with SAP_ALL, now to have the environment accessible for the other users, shall I activate using UJS_ACTIVATE_CONTENT?

I understood the following:

In Quality I can't create a new environment by bpc admin and I can't restore a backup file to a new name of environment

I was able to restore the backup to Press_Consol also using the same technical names thanks a change in the transaction SE06

I don't understand why in Quality even using an user with SAP_ALL doesn't work but in Development it works

Why?

Have you performed tests I asked? Please describe each step.

The situation is the following:

In QAS because I have delete the environment Press_Consol to restore with the backup taken from Prod, now there is only Environmentshell

I can access to the Environmentshell in QAS only with an user with SAP_all (if I try to access with my user it doesn't allow me that)

I logged in to the Environmentshell in QAS with the user with SAP_ALL and I tried to copy the environment but the process failed

"but the process failed" - screenshot of error!

Now I can't access anymore

Why the Quality is so strange?

HI Michele,

Is the file size is more than 250 MB ? why its been chosen to back up and restore from foreground  ?

Have you tried foreground option?

  • Please send UJA_DATA_CHECKER status of the environment which has taken back up. Make sure that there are no errors in the environment. if there are no errors please take back up other wise try to make environment consistent. Please share the error screen shot

  • Please take back up with below options in the screen shot . Please share the error  screen shot

  • Restore with the below options in the screen shot & let me know the status, Thank you

I don't think it's relevant to this case, looks like it's just a file name issue!

Yes Vadim seems like File name issue itself lets see. Thanks

Please perform simple test that you are able to backup and restore some simple environment on QA!

Like test I had performed.

Their are errors in the environment, please try to correct the errors. Similar thread is mentioned below. Thanks

I still don't think that the errors posted will result in "failed to upload file from source"

Hi Durgaprasad,

You suggestion is questionable, the author want to restore with the same technical name for a reason, how can you suggest to remove the option!?!?

Hi Andy,

I tried to restore environment with option, Use Technical names from Back up, But it does not worked for me. That is the reason i suggested in that way.

I was in understanding that if we restore same Environment  to quality system with same technical names, it will not work because two environments objects will not have same technical names.

The same option will work if we take backup in Development and restore in Quality.

Please let me know if my understanding is wrong. Thank you

By the way, are you able to execute background backup to the al11 folder?

michele_medaglia5

yes

former_member186338

Stupid idea: use the backup file name without "." in the name:

Not:

PRESS_CONSOL.qa2.zip

But:

PRESS_CONSOL_qa2.zip

I managed to perform backup and restore to and from AL11 folder without issues!

Sample setup:

1. Create directory C:\BPCBACKUP on the BPC server

2. Add windows rights to all users to write to this folder.

3. Configured directory in AL11:

4. Execute background backup of some environment without transaction data:

5. The backup file is successfully stored in BPCBACKUP:

6. Execute restore to the new environment ENV3:

7. New environment was successfully created.

I would like to follow the steps above:

you said:

1 create a directory....... how can I do that?

ok let us know if it is worked. Thank you

In order to create directory you need windows administrator rights

But you already have a directory!

Currently you have only environtmentshell in qa.

Create a copy of environmentshell - env1

Backup env1

Restore env1 to env2

P.S. Always start with simple tests

I had to type in manually the path

Just for test - create a new backup with only master data (small size) and test restore: first from local then from al11

thanks I will do it

Hi Michele,

Hope you are using record count as 0 instead of 200.

I am not sure, but it worked well for me when I used "/" before file name. You may use / instead of \ before file name.

Best Regards,

Manohar

Hi Manohar,

/ or \ depends on the OS on the application server

Hi

I have tried and it works but this was only an example and it doesn't fix my issue,

So I made many test and I understood:

if I try to restore using a file in the SAP Directories (the job finished immediately with success but nothing is being restored)

I have also tried to put the path to file that doesn't exist and the result is the same so it looks like a bug of the UJBR using background

What do you think?

Looks like you incorrectly specified path to the backup file on the server....

I am talking about your first post with the file located in AL11 folder...
