Custom sort order on report with Formula as group name

Hello, I'm new to Crystal Reports and am struggling with hopefully what is a fairly simple issue.

I have a group displaying the following data:

Notepad Type (filtered from a list of around 10 options)

Notepad Details

Notepad Date

As the Notepad Type name is not very user-friendly, I am replacing the displayed name with a custom name that I have configured in a formula - and that part is working fine (change group - options - Use a formula as Group Name). However, I also need to control the order in which the Notepad Types are displayed. If I select this (change group - common - sort) "in specified order", it then cancels out the formula and the whole option to customise the group name field is greyed out.

Can anyone let me know how I might get around this?

Many thanks in advance.
