"Enter intervals without overlap" -message appearing although there is no overlap, for equipment category no. range in OIEN

Hello experts,

I have run into a problem with equipment no. ranges.

There is an existing group to which a number of equipment categories are assigned.

Now, I wish to create a new no. range which starts with "1-thirteen zeroes-1" - "1-thirteen 9's-9".

The moment I try to insert the interval after giving the group name, I get the message "Enter intervals without overlap".

The strange thing is that the existing number ranges showing below are "1-eight zeroes" - "2-eight nines" [internal] and "3- eight zeroes"-nine Z's" [external]

How can there be any overlap between the existing and new proposed interval? One is a 9 digit no. while the other is a 15 digit number!

Please help.

Greetings Rudra,

Can you please go into OIEN and then "Display Intervals", then menu "Intervals > Free Intervals" and post a screen shot?

Hello Sebastian,

OIEN :-  "Display Intervals",

I did not get the part " then menu "Intervals > Free Intervals"...in your reply. Can you please explain where I will find this?

I mean in the upper menu for "Number Range Object" you should have the option "Free Intervals" - this shows you the potential (numeric) intervals that can still be partly or wholly allocated.

Hi P R,

Are you trying to create an internal number range for EQUIP_NR object? I guess Maximum of 1 internal number range and 1 external number range is allowed for EQUIP_NR.

Amol

  • The trouble-shooting of Number range overlap messages is effectively done only by the author, because of the obvious reasons that others can not know the intervals of other Groups you have and at the same time they can not ask you to post such vast information.
  • To me it seems that your External number range is clashing with some other external number range. You may investigate i these lines.
  • It could be that simple that, if another group is there with external number range, you can not use the present one.
  • In such case you may try switching the present Equipment ctgy to that Group upon exhausting the internal number range of present group..

Good luck

Sorry Sebastian, but I did not find any such link. It might be that my access is limited or something.

In the top menu for "Number Range Object" , all I could see was -overview, save & Exit. Only Exit was active for me.

Hello Amol,

In a different system, I was able to create new internal no. range for equipments and with 15 digits as I need. My client system however, is still hung up on 'Enter intervals with overlap".

Hello experts,

Glad to say that this is solved.

As Jogeshwar said, the problem was with the external no. range in the already existing group.

I changed it to 0000000000ZZZZZZZZ  from the earlier ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and then I was able to create my new 15-digit no. ranges and assign the required equipment equipment category to it.

Thanks for everybody's inputs on this.

A general question to all you experts:

Does the number ranges defined for other non-PM module objects also have an effect?

I ran the transparent table NRIV and found >6000 entries in it.

Is it possible that some other module has the 15 digit number range defined ,because of which I am getting this issue? I tried to see but the list was too long for me to skim through.

Also the fact that this system is a sandbox, could that be a problem? Too many people playing around, you know.

No, The issue is within the boundaries of OIEN.

Sandbox is not a problem. Same rules apply here also. In fact Sandbox helps you to visualize 'what happen when...'

Hello PR,

This is a very strange problem that I have also experienced in my last project. I also got it for order type number range. This issue will consume your time.

Please check the number ranges of other groups in overview, your interval must be assigned to some other group automatically by system. When you find it, change the name of the same group and assign equipment category to this group.

Note: Please logoff the system and login again.

Regards,

Ashish
