Backup and Restore using LCM BIAR

Hi Friends,

I am looking for a solution to backup and restore Folders and Reports in it along with Publication and Recurring instance in it. I have a limitations like No server access and have CMC alone to do this job.

I thought of the below steps. Please let me know if this work and need your advice to test it so that i am not breaking the Publication CUID etc.

1. Create LCM Biar file using Promotion Management by selecting the required Folder and Reports

2. Export to the local folder/ Desktop

3. Restore the Folder and Reports by importing the LCM BIAR file in Promotion Management.

By doing the above step i will be restoring the Folder and Reports to the date and time of when i did the step 1.

Thanks,

Vivek

Be aware that SAP does NOT support using LCM for doing backups. That is NOT what the tool was designed for and you may run into issues if, for example, you have many instances. Also, every time you add a new report to your system you would have to make sure that you update the LCM job for that report's folder to make sure that the new report is picked up for backup. The LCM jobs do not automatically update for this, even if you select the whole folder instead of individual reports.

    Vivek,

If you upgrade or run BI 4.2 w/ SP2 or higher that you will many more options, such as:

    • Selective Restore
    • Support for very very large ## of Objects
    • Support for schedule Objects and Instances
    • Major performance improvement
    • uses less server resource
    • Support for Big Data & large objects

Have a look at the BI 4.2 what's new

    SAP BusinessObjects What's New Collection

If you have access to ASUG link, you also try this

Include dependencies and include instances as well in the promotion job.

All above mentioned steps are good for backup. You can schedule the job, so you don't need to do it manually.
