How to restrict a character without affecting the Key figure value by default

Hi Bex experts, I'm trying restrict 2 characteristics to a certain values. These restricted characteristics , along with other characteristics will be in one same report . Although these restricted characters are put in the free characteristics section they are affecting the key figures displayed by default at the run time. What I would like to see the key figure value affected only when the restricted characteristic is placed in the report from the filter/free characteristic. Once removed , the key figure value should go back to the default (total for a given fiscal year). Any input on this would be appreciated. JHN

Please share screen and sample data..

Hi Loed, The restriction was done in the filter section, but the characteristic was added in the free characteristic section. The problem is that, it does not matter where you put it or what you use (restriction/filter) the Key figure is calculated based on the filter/restriction criteria at the run time. what I would like to see is that the key figure should change ONLY the restricted character is added in the report from the free character/filter list. Is there anyway I can achieve this behavior in the Bex

    Hello John Betterman,

If you Restrict the Characteristics, It always filters the Data based on these Characteristics, even if are not using these Restricted Characteristics in Rows/Columns.

Alternative approach is - use default filters, so that user can change at runtime. Restrict the Characteristics in Default Filters and put Rows/Columns.If user wants to see all the data then he can remove the filters in EP Portal & Bex Analyzer.

    Thanks
