Cannot launch SAPGui from ABAP in Eclipse

Hi,

i'm facing the issue that i cannot launch the SAPGui from ABAP in Eclipse anymore. It worked in the past but i'm not quite sure when the feature broke. When i try to launch SAPGui via executing a report or directly via ALT+F8 this progress bar appears and vanishes after some time but nothing happens.

That are the entries in the ABAP Communication Log.

Maybe the problem is that my installation is not (yet) supported. But i'm quite sure that excactly the same combination worked already for some time.

SAPGui: 7.40 SP 09

Eclipse 4.6.0 (Neon)

ADT 2.60.3

The problem occurs with all our backend systems e.g. 7.40 SP13 or 7.31. SP05.

Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Thanks.

Regards Christian

Hi Christian,

SAP proposed a solution for the issue that is delivered by SAP note 2364898. The bottom line of the note is that the correction is delivered with a SAP GUI for Windows patch. This will probably be the PL11 that according to note 1053737 will be shipped in week 48 (28th November - 2nd of December 2016).

There is no workaround available, so until then one has to live with the current issue (and run SAP GUI in parallel)

Hi Christian,

I have the problem, but I am using MARS.s (4.5.2). Since updating SAP Gui from Patchlevel 3 to 9 (as your installation) launching SAP Gui does not work. This might be the reason...

my problem is solved. Installation of SAP-GUI seems to be buggy. After reinstallation launching SAP GUI does work. May be in my case Eclipse was open while installing the patch.

I tried this too, but without success. Maybe Thomas Fiedler can have a look at this. Is this a known issue? Any further ideas?

Sorry, I cannot reproduce the wrong behavior.

I just installed PL9 and it works as before.

Thomas.

Ok, thanks. Any further tips for analyzing the root cause?

Hi Christian,

Can you cross-check if the same problem occurs with Eclipse Mars and the ADT?

Yes, the same error occurs in Mars (4.5.2) with ADT 2.60.3.

Its very strange - yesterday after new installation of SAP Gui everything seems fine. Today the problem is the same as before

SAP Gui does not start and when I want to exit eclipse it hangs.

The same here (Mars & Neon).

Just patched it from PL7 to PL9: SAP GUI can be started without problems.

Concerning the ADT Tools: I have a 2.60.4 installed. Perhaps worth a try, but my hopes are bit limited, that this is the fix

Just updated Neon to ADT 2.60.4. The error still occurs.

Some new findings from my side:

For Sap Logon Pad I had the systems grouped into folders as favorites.

After Installation of PL9 the SAPUILandscape.xml from an older version seems to be not valid any more. With an initial file it works. If I add the favorites with PL9 it works also.

Hi Hartmut,

that is very interesting.

You say that PL9 invalidates your previous SAPUILandscape.xml. Does it still work with SAP Logon, or is only ADT affected?

Do you have a copy of your invalidated SAPUILandscape.xml file that you could share with me for a deeper analysis?

Best regards,

Marco

Hi Marco,

SAP Logon has no problem with the file. How can I send it to? I don't like to post it here.

Best regards,

Hartmut

Any news?

I could reproduce the issue now successfully, too 🙂

Definitely, seems to be an issue in the XMLs

Update: Opened a support message 229308 / 2016 - Let's see what happens

Hi Christian,

did you get a response?

Nope, not yet 😞

Would be anyway surprised .. medium message on tooling will certainly take some months

Small update that is none. OSS is open for 3 weeks now and still in status "Sent to SAP"

The support for tooling can definitly be improved from my ppint of view. I am a little bit afraid when something like that happens in a real customer project 😞

Another Update (hopefully the last one before I can post the note that resolves the issue):

* The problem is still in process by SAP

* The problem also occurs internally at SAP

* The reason for the problem seems to be identified

So let's keep our fingers crossed that it gets resolved soon as it is definitely annoying

Hi Christian,

I had the some issue after upgrading to PL9.

I came around the problem by removing the file SAPUILandscape.xml. (I moved it).

After this my SAPLogon was empty and I manually re-entered the systems.

This way I built up a fresh SAPUILandscape.xml and ecliipse was fine with it.

Alternatively you could uninstall your SAPGui, re-install it and patch it to PL7 at maximum. (This I did before applying the work around above and it worked as well. However, I needed PL9)
