SAP HANA Administration for BO ADMIN

Hi Dear Experts,

I am currently working as BO Admin. I am interested in learning HANA Administration as well.

In this case i am confused with below

• How different is HANA Admin vs BASIS admin?
• Most of the places i see HANA with BASIS admin. Not HANA with BO Admin.
• Is it mandatory to know SAP BASIS as prerequisite to learn HANA ADMIN?

Hi Bhavanam,

• How different is HANA Admin vs BASIS admin?

HANA Admin is responsible for SAP HANA system / server administration where as SAP Basis Admin is taking care of all SAP servers / instances in landscape. Same like apple is fruit but all fruits are not apple.

• Most of the places i see HANA with BASIS admin. Not HANA with BO Admin.

HANA admin tasks are very much similar to Basis admin tasks. HANA directory structure is also very much similar to that of SAP instance. HANA is used as underlying database for various SAP Instances. And hence HANA is mostly seen as a subset of Basis Admin.

• Is it mandatory to know SAP BASIS as prerequisite to learn HANA ADMIN?

Not mandatory but its good to have basic SAP Basis knowledge. This will help to understand the administration part and help in troubleshooting.
