Hi Oliver,

Excellent Question. There two ways to achieve this, I will give show the easier, more sustainable way.

On your canvas:

1) Select a chart, and on the top right corner of the designer window, open the drop down and select "Conditional Formatting."

2) On that screen, create a new threshold and specify the measure you'd like to use. Once you set your Okay, Warning, Critical levels, go from "Conditional Formatting" to the "Builder" section.

3) Select the Bullet chart under Numeric. Select the measure and under "color" select the threshold that you've created.

4) Viola! Bullet chart appears!

Hope this helps!

Hi Moe,

thx a lot!, now it works:

It will need some more formatting, but it works!

Meanwhile I found other solutions as well.

1. with a stacked bar chart and dynamic reference line

2. or only with stacked bar chart

Problem with both solutions is, you have to prepare your data accordingly ... And in the second solution, you can see, that when the target value get's better, the bar move from right to left ... To resolve this, I would be necessarily to have the possibility, to scale dynamicly ...

So for now: thx again and have a nice weekend!

I wasn't aware of the workarounds you presented; they're interesting. Thank you for sharing! But like you said, they present some unsustainable challenges.

You're welcome

Hi Moe,

thx for your replay. You mentioned that there are "...two ways to achieve this" and you will "... show the easier, more sustainable way." - is there any difference regarding the result? - or is it just a different way to get to the same result?

Hi Oliver,

The other method that I referred to is the one presented by SAP BO Cloud training videos. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLgymwKgbeM

Look at minute 1:35; you can copy the chart from the "Examine" sub-window into a story.

Good Luck!

Hi Moe,

Thx again!, hmmm, I thought I had watch all videos carefully, but it doesn't look so ...

However, I was able to build up the bullet chart as showed in the video. But there is one main - and important - difference regarding the result: you can't customize your threshold as in the first method (no change of colours):

But ok, we have to live with that for now, let's hope improvements will come soon.

Regarding the first method it seems that there is a bug: when you have a KPI in %, the numeric tile displays the numeric value correctly (example: 16.74%), but does not apply the threshold colours. It looks like there is a scaling error from the system. I will place some print screen later today, perhaps you have an idea to get over it ...

Kind regards.

Hi Moe

As announced, here now the description of the possible bug. As mentioned bevor, I prefer the first method due to the enhanced possibilities to customize colours as well as the descriptions.

I have a KPI in %, EBIT margin, which is calculated in the account dimension:

When I try now to build up the canvas as you described in your first post, first I got the “error” message “A chart cannot be provided”:

But when I change from “Bullet” to “Numeric Point” I receive the correct value – but also without threshold formatted colours:

After playing around I found out, that the problem seems related to the threshold values. When changing them to bigger values, not reflecting that % normally are fractions between 0 and 1, I got the chart displayed, but unfortunately not as desired … And as you can see, this is not an option.

To me it looks like the system would take the “16.69%” as value without % to check if it fits into the threshold range, if not, I got the mentioned error …

Can you confirm this behaviour or do you see something I did wrong? Any Idea?

And btw: does somebody else experienced the same problem out there? Any solutions or considerations?

Hi Oliver,

Please accept my apologies for not replying sooner.

You've got an interesting error here.

First and foremost, the data is displayed in % format. This means that when we want to set the threshold should you set it between 0 and 1, OR between 0 and 100.

I guess I am on track so far....

Here is my suggestion:

Sometimes the bullet chart doesn't work the first time. So after you've received a somewhat working chart by putting 0 to 100 threshold, change the threshold again to b/w 0 and 1. Does that readjust graph?

If the threshold doesn't work after doing my suggestion, then congratulations! You've discovered a bug that should be reported to SAP support. i.e. The bullet chart doesn't support %s properly.

Hi Moe,

nothing to appologize!

Indeed, I tried several times to change the threshold from "0-1" to "0-100" and back and again ...

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the process of reporting issues for BO Cloud, and I have no pressure to resolve it because I'm just playing arround for learning and get used to the tool. 😕

Kind regards.
