Migrate to S/4 Hana cloud from SAP ECC

Dear all,

One of our customer is currently running SAP Business suite on ECC 6.0 and would like to move to  S/4 Hana Cloud. Can any ine please redirect/guide us to the right documents to figure out the steps needed.

Do we call this as migration or new implementation? Is the process similar to moving from legacy/SAP ECC to S4Hana On Premise?

What are the tools and skill sets needed for the existing resources to upgrade?

Is it completely customizable as we are moving existing developed ABAP objects to cloud ?

Any scenarios that are yet supported in cloud when compared to on premise?

Appreciate your suggestions

Thanks in advance

Mike

Hi Micheal,

I am also exploring S/4 HANA so please share your inputs when you have the answers to your questions. My understanding is the following:

1) Assuming that you are planning to move all the business processes (not just finance) from SAP business suite to cloud so the viable option is "SAP S/4HANA, cloud enterprise edition (1506)".

2) I understood from various blogs that you won't have access to SAP SPRO in any of S/4 HANA cloud offerings as Cloud is based on more pre-configured processes and guided configuration.

3) My feeling is that you need to list down all the busines processes from your current business suite and check if those processes are available in HANA Enterprise cloud edition. If not then, in my opinion it won't be straight forward to migrate all of them. You can also utilise the guided configuration provided by SAP for configuring every business process.

4) Data migration to CLOUD can be done using SAP data services. I am not sure about the licensing in that case. I know we need a separate license for data migration in S/4 hana on-premise.

SAP S/4HANA MIGRATION PATHS

There are Two option -

1. Greenfield (New Implementation)

2. Whitefield (Migration from SAP ECC)

Some organizations may elect not to migrate but rather opt for a “greenfield” installation that simply requires data migration from the old system into a completely new SAP HANA environment.

However, for the majority, a “brownfield” migration is the likely path, moving from existing systems, upgrading and reusing existing system elements selectively.

At this stage, we assess the current SAP system and the steps required, including whether to maintain existing databases or move to a new version.

Taking a phased approach makes it possible to manage the migration costs in line with planned budgets and timetables. We work with organizations to help them understand the changes they need to make.

SAP S/4HANA migration paths

Which is best?

Greenfield(New Implementaion)- The initial step to move SAP S/4HANA, cloud edition is the implementation of customers cloud system. Based on the built-in functionalities of the guided configuration the customer (optionally supported by consulting and implementation partners) implements his business scenarios and business processes. The required master and transactional data can be migrated from SAP Business Suite (or any legacy system).

Brownfield(Migration from SAP ECC), Technically the migration to SAP S/4HANA, cloud edition is based on SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) and Data Migration Server (DMIS) as data migration tools. Data is migrated from a customer’s source (SAP Business Suite System or any legacy system) to a new SAP S/4 HANA cloud target system. From an implementation point of view, the data migration is integrated into the SAP S/4HANA Implementation Cockpit (End to End Implementation Experience).

Thanks.
