SAP PO System copy or fresh installation and migration

Former Member

Hi guys,

We currently have some of our PO instances hosted in the cloud and we are planning to move them to our on-premise facilities. We are analyzing the two different options to carry out this task

1. SAP PO system copy

2. SAP PO fresh installation and migration of objects.

As per your understanding, which would be the recommended option? Pros and Cons of each approach?

Really appreciate your feedback.

Kind regards,

Hello Philleas,

If it is an as-is migration with no version change, then a System Copy is the way to go. As it means minimal PI / PO Developer effort and hence faster migration / deployment. In this case your runtime payloads / monitoring data etc will be retained and only Basis changes around Exchange Profile etc will be required.

If it is a case where your PI Server is on a lower version and you would like to use this opportunity to go to the latest version then a Migration to 7.5 does the trick.

There is no direct answer to this - it depends on other parameters like number of interfaces, budget , time . testing effort , etc..

Hi Bhavesh,

Many thanks for your reply.

It is an AS-IS migration (we currently in latest SP of 7.4 and do not want at this stage to upgrade yet to 7.5).

In that case there is no value add in doing a migration. Do a system copy. The PI team effort will be negligible but around testing for connections and firewall etc..
