Appending data from BW queries

Gurus,

I am trying to do a simple append of the same BW query over two different time periods.  ie.  Year=2015 in query 1 and Year=2014 in query 2.

The act of appending is working as I can see the data in the prepare tab fine.  Visualization, however, immediately asks me to perform a dataset link. Why is this needed?  Its a visualization of the appended dataset shown in the prepare tab.  I have attempted to provide links (all columns in set1= all columns in set2), but without success in visualizing the appended sets together.

what am I missing here?

thanks

james

Hi James,

Can you check if  the appended data is reflecting in the Prepare tab.

- the number of rows increase

- the appended data set is grayed out in the data set selector

- final access to only one query with 2014 and 2015

Try to perform the append once more and check these aspects.

Thank you,

Varun Anand

I can see the rows added in prepare.  The selector shows a grayed out set.

final access is to the one query with both sets.

I had to add a new Chart...and work with that one to make it work.  Delete the default one that comes up on creation of new LUM file.

Look ok now.

thanks

Hi James,

It happens sometimes when the default chart existed before the append/merge was performed. Thus could not find the path to retrieve data from the new query.

Please take this into account when you build storyboards in Compose as well. You would just need to create a new visualization/story for the changes to reflect.

Thank you,

Varun Anand
