ALERT rule in SAP PI ID/NWA is not working

Former Member

Hi Experts,

I am facing an issue with alerts in SAP PI (dual stack 7.31).

I have configured alert rule in ID and NWA along with relevant configurations for jobs as shown in the following blog.

http://scn.sap.com/community/pi-and-soa-middleware/blog/2012/03/25/michals-pi-tips-component-based-m...

But it looks like it is not generating alert when I make the messages fail in PI. I am not able to see any alert count, in the job logs it is showing as 0 alerts has been consumed as shown in the following screenshot.

Could you please provide some pointers to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Kedar

Hi,

In the ID create one more alert rule which must be checked as DEFAULT ALERT RULE and the consumer name must remain same.

if in the current rule you have used ALERT-TO-MAIL use the same in DEFAULT RULE.

all the alerts which are not caught by any of the rules arre caught by this.

Hi Kedar - Did you configure the basic 'JavaMail' parameters as listed in Step-3 of Michal's blog.

Thanks,

Anand

Anand alerts are not generated ,After this step only mail client will come to picture.

I doubt some category is not selected in alert rule.

Hi Anand, Raghuraman,

I have selected all categories while creating the alert rule.

Hi Raghu - In the job logs there usually is no indication of whether alerts have been generated or not, from what I remember.

Also, the configuration  for selecting the components is pretty straightforward, so the chances of missing something here is remote.

@Kedar - Trust you have selected all the relevant components?

Hi Anand,

I have selected all components.

Regarding job logs, it will show the count of alerts in the job logs. In the screenshot attached in my original post, it is showing as 0 alerts consumed.

If mail is not working that is fine, but I am expecting it should show the alert at least. Since this count is 0, it looks like alert rule is not generating the alerts.

Hi Kedar - When I tried this scenario, did not see the alert-count in the job logs for the successful case. What worked for me was when the mail-server parameter(SMTP in my case), and the username/pwd were provided in the NWA Javamail properties.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Anand

One more check.Did you add the required objects in the alert and also check your alert is enabled.

And you alert job is recurring one?

Hello Kedar,

Check the failing message and ensure you selected the correct alert category in Alert rule(In ID).
