SAP APO SNP Optimizer has long runs and a bit non-stable results. Do you know how to help?

Hi,

we have a customer who is going to use extensively SNP optimization engine for mid and long-term planning in conjunction with short-term PPDS optimize

The challenge:

  • Expert help during SNP optimization run is needed,
  • Manage heavy optimization models – 60GB,
  • Currently – a bit too long run times, some instabilities in results,
  • It happens despite SAP standards are met – including powerful H/W (60 cores, 256 GB RAM),

The need:

  • SNP Optimization expert who can look at the optimization logs (the customer wants to provide them on request by e-mail to the relevant expert)
  • SNP expert is expected to make a sanity check if everything is OK from SAP standard side.
  • This request is urgent. The customer is starting productively, being the first live SAP installation in the Group,

The background:

  • Wood processing – complete supply chain from cutting to finished product (floor board
  • The implementation is done purely by the partner (no safeguarding procedures so far). Now the customer applied to for assistance at this critical phase.

SNP Solution:

  • SNP optimizer for planning/re-planning runs in short (6 weeks) horizon by days, in 3 production/distribution locations, which can exchange between a lot of semi-finished/ final products, and one pure DC. The data model is characterized by high number of multi-outputs PPMs with many alternatives and production lots discretization (max lot sizes) as well as a high number of transportation lines with discrete quantities (transportation lot size) per each  material.
  • Have you experienced this kind of case before? If yes, please, give me a feedback!

Finaly information in the note 579373 appeared helpful (Ada - many thanks!). I contacted the note owner (following also  DB9 suggestion! - also thanks). Partner is preparing optimizer logs for analysis. The customer started requesting for appropriate service (mentioned in the note). Everything is back on track. I think - I owe you more explanation, also for those who are pasionate about SNP optimizer. When we get more understanding about how this almost living organizm behaves in real business life, I promise more mature information on SDN as well. Many thanks for your support!  Dariusz

Dariusz,

This sounds suspiciously like a high level RFQ for a substantial consulting engagement.  It certainly does not sound like a specific question about a specific problem, which is the 'normal' role for SCN.

I notice that you are an SAP employee.  I was always under the impression that SAP had their own internal consulting group, tasked to supply these types of services (for a fee).

Is SAP now using SCN to recruit consulting services?

DB49, I appologize if it sounded like like that. The model is very specific, based on wood cutting process, so I believe that only few people in the world had opportunity to meet similar case in the past. The model had been invented by the company, no SAP consultant was involved. I am also experienced APO consultant but for this specific case I wanted to talk to somebody who met this specific optimizer behavior before.

But I agree. You are right. I will look deeper at this case by myself and encourage the authors of this solution to publish their specific questions, which can be directly answered here on the forum. This is the most convenient way to helping them.

Thank you for good remark

Best Regards
