MAIN_TRANSEXEC/TABIM_POST_TRANS step running long

Hello Team,

I am working on EHP7 SPS12 upgrade from EHP6 SPS5 and I have selected single system option (no shadow instance) as the resources are limited.

The upgrade is at the step MAIN_TRANSEXEC/TABIM_POST_TRANS and it seems this step does mass activation of objects as I can see in job log.

As the job progressed all dialog processes occupied for this job. The only way I can feel the activation is in progress is by seeing CPU utilization.

This step is running since 16 hours  (MAIN_TRANSEXEC/TABIM_TRANS took 20 hours). Please suggest if I can see anywhere about the progress as I

can't login to instance now and suggestion to make this step completed.  (From MMC I can see all dialog and 1 btc is running)

OS - WIndows 2008 R2 SP1

DB - MSSQL 2012 SP3

Hi Reddy,

From your shared file - N160624.<SID> job RDDGEN0L is still in running conditions,so in my opinion you should wait for some more time.

Hi Gaurav,

zcsa/system_language is set to E

It was showing job as cancelled because I have restarted instance to adjust dialog processes etc to make upgrade faster. As soon as instance is started the job again active.

As we do not see any issues anywhere waiting could be the only possible way.

Any further suggestions are welcome. Really challenging and but would like to know what caused to run so long (390+ patches ?) when I am out of this huddle.

This step is running and it is more than 4 days .. even though it is dev .. but production system planning effected because of this ...

Please let me know if I can restart SUM when it is running in downtime (I understand we can't do it during downtime) .. I do not see any other way out. what will be the impact.

I have referred SAP Note

1631790 - Mass activation during transport is started repeatedly

This note is about job RDDMASGLis starting repeatedly. In my case it is job RDDGEN0L but it is doing same job - mass activation.

Please help if you have any idea but the above note is for SAP BASIS 731 0002 but I am already in 731 0007

Any suggestion really helps me.

After long investigation I have found below notes are applicable / relevant for this issue but my systems are already on higher SPS level

1631790 - Mass activation during transport is started repeatedly

1542026 - Enh mass activation log messages should include time stamp

1369430 - Upgrade performance problem with enhancements

as per me it seems running and I will wait

Have the phase completed or still running ? As you've opted standard downtime (Moderate usage of system resources) to complete the upgrade and after analysis you should wait to complete it.

Thank you for your reply.

It is still running and it is more than 3 days now.

Job RDDGEN0L is running with work processes having sequential reads on D010EHN and few work processes are direct reads on table REPOSRC.

The log from tmp and log (under SUM directory) is same as above

Please check and suggest actions to overcome this and complete the upgrade ?

You could check the progress of upgrade steps under directory \usr\sap\<SID>\SUM\abap\log
