Hi,

Above is an article that provides a step by step on reporting on unmanaged file such as Excel.  The article mentions that it works on a Windows platform and not UNIX.  However, we are on a UNIX platform 4.1 sp5 and want to know if there have been any changes in the application that would allow for this functionality.

Thanks.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for your reply.  We are able to upload an Excel file into the BI Launchpad.  However, what I'm trying to do is report on an excel file that is on a share drive.  I can create the report in Webi Rich client.  However, when I try to refresh I get an error message "You do not have the right to access data returned by this universe (Error: INF).  I get this message even when I am logged in as administrator, so it isn't a permissions issue.

can you access the excel file from your local system to shared drive excel folder?

one more thing you have mentioned  you have BO server is on Linux then might be it will not work once you export the report in repository and try to access from the BI launch Pad...

You can have a look at this post for using Excel as a datasource on a Unix environemnt:

You would just need "Excel Data Access Service". Follow through the comment section of this Doc.

Hope this helps.

try giving the Data Access right for the user that sees this error message, to both the Excel and the folder where the report and excel are inside the Central Management Console (CMC).
