Best practice to find right datasource?

Greetings,

i'm always confronted, i assume like all BW-consultants, to find the right datasource to extract requested data from source system.

Mostly, i try it with "google" but wanted to know if there is a better way or other known ways which are perhaps more efficient?

Many thanks in advance!

Regards

    Hi ,

Go to RSA1 > Metadata Repository Tab > Under Business Content > Click on Local objects, Then Click on Info Cube, then Search for the info provider for which you want to search the data source, and Click on "Network display of the data flow". You will get all information for the right data source.

    Hi,

This is an interesting question with probably many answers. Here are my personal habits:

    - RSA5 - which display all dataSources from the business content,

    - Google (including search on help.sap.com)

    - table ROOSOURCE (which can display for the simpler dataSources the source table).

    Regards,

    Frederic

    Hi,

In addition to other suggestions, you can also do the following:

    1. Narrow down the application area and browse and test the datasources available in RSA5 for that particular application
    2. Identify the tables from which you need to extract the data and search for datasouces built on those tables in the help documentation

    Cheers!

    Hi M.Y,

    1. Identify the module, as it helps us in telling base table for fetching data, such for SD (VBAK, VBAP) or for FI (BKPF, BSEG ) etc..

    2. In RSA5, check for the datasource in respective module and Identify the datasource, using help.sap

    3. Once identified the relative data-source , check for the data in RSA3 (if data is coming as per requirement).

4, In case of SD,MM,PP, QM , go to LBWE and for datasource their, Extract structure tells alot about tables from data is going to be picked.

    Regards,

    Bhanu

    Hi M.Y,

The most best option is find it in RSA5.using text options it will display the datasource

the check the DS in RSA3 after installed .

and also standard infocube find it Metadata Repository and install the cube in BI content before and after .

    help.sap.com and scn too helpful.

    thanks
