SAP ERP HCM data to S/4HANA employee mini-master

Hi All,

we have following scenario and I would like to know options available and also get some insights if any one using the same approach.

Payroll > for Payroll we will be using SAP ERP on HANA (employee master/HCM)

Finance > for Finance we will be using SAP S4HANA on-premise 1511


Based on install/config guide SAP says we should use ALE for employee master data transferring from HCM system to S4HANA and it says that we need to have same HCM config on both systems. Additionally SAP mentioned in some documents for the S/4HANA on-premises edition, SAP will provide packaged integration's feed SAP ERP HCM data to the S/4HANA employee mini-master... with this I have following questions

#1. are those packaged integration's available? where can we download?

#2. best options/ways do to make sure HCM config is same in both systems (ERP and S/4) or will that packaged integration address this ?

      if not can we ask functional team to use BC sets and get that  config synced from ERP system to S/4 or any best options??

#3. ALE transfer works or any other special steps needs to be performed as HCM will be on ERP system and Finance will be on S/4HANA

hoping to see some thoughts around this

Please note first, if both systems are on Premise, you would use ALE

if they were cloud based, you would use HCI and you can download the integration content then

in your case refer here

#1. are those packaged integration's available? where can we download?

#2. best options/ways do to make sure HCM config is same in both systems (ERP and S/4) or will that packaged integration address this ? if you upgrade your system to S4hana ie single instance you can run HCM In S4HANA!!

      if not can we ask functional team to use BC sets and get that  config synced from ERP system to S/4 or any best options??

Hi Siddharth,

I have gone through all SCN and SAP notes then only posted this message.

We will not be thinking of upgrade or merge HCM into S4HANA systems as this is new greenfiled implementation where I have SAP recomended not to have Payroll and Benifits on S/4 embeded(even though SAP official documents refered as embedded anyway SAP client partner recomended strongly not to have HCM on S4)

I know that ALE will work for transactional data but my question is what is the best practice to get HCM configuration on HCM and S/4 systems as that is prrequsite for ALE to funtion properly.

If you are not sure please do not respond as I am looking for some expert opinion or inputs from them who are on the same boat with these new situations

and I am also looking for those integration packages (and also specific to HCM and S/4 on premise as I know that some integration packaages avialable for cloud)

Hello Subbu,

My client is migrating from Oracle to S/4HANA. We are in the verge of implementing SAP HCM on SAP S/4HANA platform. I am very much confused in the process and want some inputs from your end.

  1. Does S/4HANA support HCM R/3 suite?
  2. Can we implement OM, PA, Training and Event Management in S/4HANA?

Hi Rajesh,

Sorry for late responce, I would suggest you enagage your SAP account team as you need support and maintenance from them..

Technically we should be able to run HCM in S4HANA but seems SAP is not recomending considering SAP Maintenance strategy but in their product information they have outlined options for migrations and SF HCM is going to be HCM solution going forward but SAP HCM will be supported until 2025 I guess.

Having said that would be good if you can get direction from SAP through your SAP account team for your project

We are going through transition from ECC to S/4.

Complete HCM is considered to migrate to S/4, can you please throw some realistic information as it seems that you have gone through this excerise.

1. Can we migrate complete HCM data/Config to S/4?

2. Will there be no impact on Payroll? like cluster data, control record, retro accounting?

3. what happens to ESS/MSS?

My client is not looking forward for SF, at the same time SAP ECC to be shut down.

Hi Babu,

Very intresting questions and please see my response below at the same time please note that I am not SAP Funtional Solution Architect ( I am Basis guy :-))

#1. Yes. Technically but seems SAP trying to put some restrictions in terms of maintenance support for Core HCM. Please try refer HCM roadmap documents from SAP in which they mention how customer can transistion to S/4. Make sure you get SAP engaged into these discussions as your client may not have choice of other than going to SF as core HCM support and maintenance will have some restrictions..

#2. Yes, Technically should not be any impact but again make sure you get SAP accountable and take their recomendations as they have been talking about productized packaged integrations and also senarios to accomidate those who wanted to stay HCM on premise for while but I have not seen whether they have delivered those yet...

#3. Unfortunatley I have no idea what will happen to ESS/MSS if we migrate to S/4 , I assume should not have any impact...

Finally I suggest request your client to engage their SAP Account team as they may have to start with SF.

These has been answered in above blogs

Let me reiterate

1. Can we migrate complete HCM data/Config to S/4? Yes for S4HANA on premise standard content is delivered and some needs to be configured

No. You run HCM as is, no effect is done on these part

3. what happens to ESS/MSS?

it remains as is

HCM is not effected by any S4HANA simplification as Successfactors is go to HCM solution and integrates into S4HANA.

So you continue to run HCM in S4HANA without any changes to HCM processes, Please note HCM On premise mainstream support ceases in 2025.

If we choose new implementation as an option for S/4HANA transition.

how do we migrate PY/TM cluster data?

I have to migrate PY/TM clusters though not all data, at least 5/10 or till earliest retro accounting date.

Good question, then you need to use custom migration reports for this, I have seen partner tools for this

also, I would ask you to raise OSS message for this if required if its new installation, didn't find any standard tool but maybe its in the works?
