Movement tracking

Hello experts,

I have a specific requirement - We have defined Coaches as Functional locations and when they arrived for maintenance, they are placed at different locations within the plant which keeps on changing and finally moved out of plant. Now we want to keep track of movement history and current location of Functional location. 

How should locations be defined within plant which can be changed so often and also keep track of movements and current location of Functional locations. Is it possible to fulfil it using standard sap pm functionality only or not. Please help if anybody have worked on such scenario.

Hi Pawan,

I am suggesting you should go for creation of equipment instead functional location for following reason as 'Your location not changing but your machine moving from workshop/store to Location 1 and Location-A to Location-B.

Like this we can move the equipments/machines in different location.

SAP is tracking all this movement as 'Usage life Period' and can be seen from History of the equipment. You can check this using Extras --> Usage List from menu bar.

Usage list will give the history of that equipment - Valid from, valid to, Installed FL/Superior equipment, Technical identification no. etc details.

Though this 'Usage List' functionality available in Functional Location (Structures --> Usage Periods) but it will give the usage period of the equipment only which installed on it but does not give the usage period the Functional Location.

Thanks Lalit for sharing your knowledge...but functional location can also be installed on a functional location, the report may not be available readily though but table entries might be available for generating the same report as for equipment.

This can be made possible through a development using tables CDHDR CDPOS tables.

For your requirement the Coaches should have been Equipments. Let's wait for some ideas from members with coaches as Functional locations.

LALIT has just elaborated. That was my idea and standard way of doing it. Only Equipment Movements can be tracked not F/Locations. The menu Extras > Usage list in Equipment master gives you the report of, to which all places the Equipment moved from time to time. The other way of same report is IH08 with input of your Coach/es as Equipment number/s and the Period  frm to (date) values with your desired range.

Hi Pawan,

In your case LOCATION term does not correspond to Locations in FL master data I believe.

In this case, you might need to develop a custom program for tracing berthing & shunting of coaches. e.g. Coach1 when it comes to workshop, first location will be Yard entrance. Then it will move to some other section & so on till it leaves your workshop with complete maintenance. In such case, you need a complete Z functionality I believe.

OR you might wan to explore Yard management in SAP & try to co-relate with your requirement.
