any way to perform a BW DB refresh and filter data simultaneously

dear all

i am trying to squeeze a PROD system into a QA system.

my QA system does not have the data capacity resources of PROD, so i wish to reduce the data during the refresh, and just wondered if there is a way of filtering the data during the refresh, or does it have to occur after, in a separate step.
