Hi,
I'm trying to transport for the first time between our DEVELOPMENT box and our PRODUCTION box. It seems from our DEV box I can export a transport package. In the PRD box when I goto IMPORT I do not see the transport. It seems the exports on the DEV box are pointing to this directory;
D:\usr\sap\EPD\SYS\global\pcd\Export
And our import directory on our PRD box points to this directory;
D:\usr\sap\EPP\SYS\global\pcd\Import
Obviously the 😧 drive on either server is not the same. It's unclear to me how it is supposed to make the connection. How does it know where the PRD server is in order to export there?
Thanks!
Hi,
Copy the export object from Dev box ( D:\usr\sap\EPD\SYS\global\pcd\Export) to the import
of Prd box (D:\usr\sap\EPP\SYS\global\pcd\Import) and then carry forward with import.
alternatively you can also
1. In the DEV box,ones the export is done, a link is provided on the export object which you can save on your desktop.
2. In the Prd box, goto Tranports->import and take 'client' option.
you can now browse and select the export object from your desktop.
Hope that helps.

There is a guide by SAP that is called Change Management and Transport in the Enterprise Portal. It is for SP2 but the concepts in it are very good. You should really map the export folder of the dev server to the import folder of the QA and Prod servers to help preserve an export once import many process.
By the way, I told you it worked... well it seemed to work... I received the message that it it uploaded yet I can't find it anywhere. Basicly I transported a folder from the portal content on DEV.... I can't find the folder anywhere on the PRD box. Maybe it put it in a different directory or something?
It should put it in the same directory as your DEV system. Make sure that you have not killed the upload before it was completed.

I don't think I killed it. I did notice that in DEV under portal content I can performa search and I get many objects as choices including TRANSPORT PACKAGE, and ROLE etc. But when I search on PRD I do not get all of those options. I tried searching for the folder in the entire portal content directory but didn't find it.... but then again I tried searching on the DEV box too and it didn't come up in the search results (even though I can clearly see it visible) so something's wrong with searching.
Wait I think I figured out what I did wrong... I created a transport but didn't add anything to the transport object. When I created the initial transport object I right-clicked on the folder I wanted to transport which created the transport object. I didn't know I then had to add the folder to the transport object.... I'm testing now...
Partick,
What you are saying is right.
As an alternative you can download the transport package to your local machine and upload/import it from your local machine to the Prod server.
