Log Backup

Hi,

I have scheduled the daily Complete Data Backup through the DBACOCKPIT, and also turned on the Automatic Log Backup in the database studio. My question is can I delete the log backup generated from the automatic log backup once the daily complete data backup completed. If yes, is there any script or tool that can perform this task automatically?

Thanks,

KJ

The answer is yes, but you will only be capable to restore to the latest daily backup or later, or to earlier full backups.

Basically I do not think the automatic logbackup is a good thing, it only backs up your data if the logfile is full. If the system crashes before the logbackup is created, you only will be able to restore to the latest full backup. So frequent scheduling of a logbackup is a good thing.

There is afaik no SAP tool that deletes old logbackups, for MaxDB I always create and schedule some OS script to do this. A search for 'delete files older than'  will provide the right answer for your OS.
