SD vehicle based pricing

Dear Experts,

I want to call pricing for the products that we deliver but the vehicles we use to deliver the products are also a factor of pricing.

We have a fleet of around 800 vehicles, and each vehicle has a different price.

I want to call vehicle based pricing for the product. Should I use condition groups for the vehicles?

Please advise me.

Regards

I seriously doubt that you have 800 different rates for each truck in your company for the same thing.

Probably the price for transportation depends on several factors, which could be separate condition types. If you speak further with the business, probably it will turn out that the price depends on factors like :

  • truck type (van, bay truck, flat truck, bulk truck, with/without trailer, trailer type and so on)
  • truck capacity - maximum number of pallets
  • truck utilization %
  • day/night/weekend/holiday trip
  • transportation zones
  • transported materials - type of product.
  • trip distance (probably as scales)
  • number of stops
  • additional equipment - pallet jack, forklift
  • price for load/unload products
  • additional licenses/permits

and so on.

In this case you will probably end up with just a few condition types and not that many condition records, but you will need to classify the vehicles (transportation planners can help you group them), classify the products and find a good way to measure distances (if it is based on actuals).

For some of these factors you may need transport cost calculation or external software.

If you are just doing preliminary cost estimation in a quotation - it will be a very rough estimate based on historical data and averages (definitely possible, but harder than it looks, you have to monitor and re-adjust the values by comparing with actual results).
