Hello All,

I have a motor as an equipment and its BOM has bearing and rotor as spares. Now for a maintenance breakdown on motor, I have replaced bearing.

Now my client want to repair that bearing. How can we do it in SAP?

Thanks & Regards,

Ashish

Hello Mr. Rao,

I know we can create a refurbishment order on material but for that we need to exchange bearing using IE4N so that this bearing reflect in inventory. Without reflecting damaged bearing in inventory, Can we create refurbishment order?

Also we need to split valuation for bearing.

Note: This bearing is a BoM component.

I do not have any idea about how to process an assembly but somewhere I read that an assembly is not a physical object.

Please provide the solution.

Thanks!

  • If your Refurbishment process is Serial number based, then you do IE4n. In this case it will be a complicated route for your task.
  • Instead process it in a very normal way by creating a Work order (PM01, PM02 etc) and having this material in the Assembly field (below the Equipment number) of the Reference object section.

Second case looks reliable and user friendly but in this case challenge is to return the bearing to store so that they can issue it later.

Also we are not having damaged bearing inventory anywhere in system?

How can we track the exact goods movement?

Thanks!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • If your interest is to track Movements then make it an Equipment (a Sub equipment under your Motor).
    • Then have few functional locations such as
      • Defective
      • Under Repairs
      • Ready
    • When the Bearing needs repairs it will be Dismantled from the structure and installed in Defective FLocn.
    • When it is sent for repairs it will be dismantled from Defectice and installed in Under Repairs FLocn
    • Similarly after repairs and before fitting into Motor it will be under Ready FLocn
    • This gives complete track of the Bearing with a single mouse click from Usage Period (I hope you know)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • When you use word Inventory, it sounds some Value to the Material. In that case Refurbishment  process looks the only answer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • If it is about Quantity tracking only (as a Material), but not then the value then, you can take advise from MM people about
    • What type of Material it should be created (like non-valuated)
    • And what types of MvtTyps can be used for performing the tracking of the Material equivalent to stages we discussed above in Equipment usage period .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe the first case will be better and on the Equipment you can Create and Process Orders capturing all costs.

Hello sir,

As there are many process in SAP for repair so this is always confusing.

Actually the client requirement is:

They want to repair a inventory material lets say hydraullic hose pipe.

In this case, this pipe cannot be created as an equipment in SAP. Now I would like to repair it because repairing is less expensive than procuring a new one.

So the confusion is; How will we create a order on material? And if we choose refurbishment then how can we take hose pipe back to inventory(which is already consumed against an order earlier or cost center).

I am very confused about the return of inventory once it has been consumed to order.

Please provide your valuable suggestions.

Thanks and regards,

Ashish

  • It  sounds like you are concerned about the Quantity only. Then why Order at all. You can keep the repairs records through Notification also.
  • After NOCO, you post the Quantity (Let it be one per Notification or More) into the storage location using MvtTyp like 501. (Receipt without Purchase Order into unrestricted use).
  • If you must have an Order, then do it using Assembly and then after TECO, take the stock into Storage location as said above.
  • Even you can discard Storage location idea, by simply following the first option of my previous post. i.e., Have FLocns
    • Defective
    • Under Repairs
    • Ready
  • Here the new idea is, you need not have them as Equipments.
  • You can have them as FLocn BOMs.
  • Means when a Material arrives to Ready location after repairs you'd increment the Quantity of that particular material in IB12.
  • Similarly when a Material arrives at Defective FLocn, you will increment the Qty in that FLocn BOM (IB12)
  • When a Material shifts from Defective to Under repairs or fitted in Machine from  Ready , you will decrease the Qty accordingly.
  • Thus, with this idea of FLocn BOM,  you do not need need to create the Material as an Equipment and also no botheration of MvtTyps and Storage Locns.
  • And in IH01 you will be able to see all such Materials and their Quantities clearly at a glance.

Hello sir,

After gone through your suggestion and my client's requirement, I think we can map this as a refurbishment process. But I have confusions;

1. Is equipment creation necessary to follow refurbishment process?.

The reason being for this confusion is : how can we check which spare material is installed right now at equipment?. And once new spare material is consumed against an order then how can we take it back to the inventory for refurbishment in defective stage?.

Please clear my confusion because I am in need to provide the solution to client.

Thanks & Regards,

Ashish

If you want to track by unique piece wise tracking you need Equipment creation (Serialization of material). If you need only Quantity tracking in Storage Locations, you do not need Equipment creation (No need for Material serialization, Only split valuation). It is as simple as that.

Yes sir, I understood your answer but my concern is how to take back the defective material in to inventory. Is there any need to do movement type 501?.

I can create a refurbishment order when I have a material in inventory as a defective. So how to get it back to inventory as a defective?.

let me explain more:

Suppose I have created a material named hose pipe with three different valuation as C1- New, C2- Refurbished, C3- defective.

Now I have two nos of hose pipe of C1 type in stock, out of which one is consumed against a maintenance order with movement 261. And physically one hose pipe of C3 type is coming back to store then how can we show the movement of c3 material in system?

Should it be done by store with 501 movement type or any other alternative?

Thanks!

  • Yes 501 will be needed, incase 501 is not given to you, you may use 202 (Reversal of 201).
  • Remember that this matter should be decided in consultation with MM to take care of all related matters .

And then

  • For your first question of C3 coming to Store, the naswer is Mvt type 501 or 202 as said above.
  • This material after sending to Refurbishment will be coming to the StLocn you desire (As per your StLocn values in RefOrder) automatically as C2, when the GR is done (IW8W) OR when UD is done (QA32) in case there is Inspection plan for the material.

Hi,

You should use 262 movement type to return the spare parts against the work order. because you received the material using 261 movement type against order.

to do the 262 movement type follow the below.

1. create the corrective work order and enter the material number and enter the ( - ) negative quantity. if that material is valuated , enter the valuation type (C3 - Defective).

2. Then Do the GI (good issues) .

3. Now you can verify the Quantity of C3 ( Defective ) get increased.

After that You can create the refurbishment order against the material. Now the repair cost will get settled against the material.

Hope its clear. if not plz reply.

If you have Refurbishment process then it is the answer. If you do not have then create a Maintenance Order on the Bearing as an Equipment or as an Assembly.
