How can we restrict the access / authorization to run payroll for a certain group of employees, only to some of the HR users and not all?
Can we do this only by assigning those group of employees to a certain payroll area and then restricting access according to payroll area?
Or is there some other way to do this too?
And how can we access the viewing of infotype 0008 details of higher management, only to certain selected HR users, and not all?
Our client is not using the field payroll administrator on infotype 0001
1) Is the classification of employees based on fields like EG,ESG,PA,PSA, org key? If yes, you can simply use P_ORGIN to restrict the authorization. If not, you can use payroll area. You can define your org key based on this using the VDSK1 feature and then use P_ORGIN based on org key to restrict payroll area access.
2) Assuming your higher management is categorized on the basis of EG or ESG, you can use P_ORGIN to control IT 8 access based on the EG & ESG.

Hi,
you couldn't restrict the payroll run. Also if you could, in my opinion it makes no sense because the transaction to display and post the posting runs has only an authorizaion check on run type.
For the second question have a look at
Authorizations for Human Resources - SAP Library
