maximum benefit from the old Hardware

Hi everybody ,

we a willing  to transform to on-premise SAP S/4 HANA ,we have already SAP ERP 6.0 EHP 5 running in place with new hardware, "not so old, purchased since 5 years", "HP proliant BL 460c G7"  but it seems that the Hardware is not suitable and not certified to run SAP HANA  .

so, what could be the best design solution for our Data center, and valid the installation option ??

one of the suggested solutions that, to perform distributed installation and to use the old Hardware to install the application and purchase New certified hardware for SAP HANA databse installation  .....is it valid solution ??

there is any other valid solution to use the old server and storage for S/4 HANA installation and get maximum benefit from them   ??

Hi Ahmed,

SAP only supports certified hardware vendors when it comes to HANA or S/4 HANA.

As HANA architecture, performance and other things being more of hardware dependent.... is the reason.

So the solution 1 is the only option you;re left with if you choose HANA.

Use your old hardware for SAP application and will anyways you will have a new hardware for S/4 HANA.

you mean that deploy HANA Database on the new machine and S/4 HANA applications can be deployed in the old machine as distributed installation  with normal configurations like before ??

Hi Ahmed,

Yes, you can use your old hardware for installing SAP applications only, that will connect to HANA DB which is installed on the certified hardware.

using supported virtualized environment like VMware5.5 on top of non-certified Hardware is not working also ??

For SAP HANA it will not work. You may use those old hardware without HANA

1. For SAP HANA SAP certified support appliances only support HANA DB & applications. Old one can be used in any either testing of SAP Server (Non HANA environment) or application servers for HANA DB refer the SCN thread - https://scn.sap.com/thread/3642392
